Hey everyone, so next on the list of things to fix/replace are my steering/head bearings. From what I can see if looks like the bearings themselves are fairly cheap. I've never had to change these before and I just wanted to ask around before I started the tear down to see how big of a project this is going to be. If anyone has suggestions or tips I'd really appreciated em.
    Thanks!

Not too bad, takes loner to tear everything down to get at it than to actually do it

I replaced the loose ball bearings, and installed tapered bearing packs, from a company called "All Balls."

Their part number for the XJ650 is 22-1015

    Here is an ebay auction:

Easy replacement. The hardest part is driving out the old bearing races from the steering tube.

Thanks! Glad to hear it's not too big of a deal. Guy at the shop wants about $300 to replace em. I think I can handle it

Prep work will make the job easier too! I used strings to tie my handlebars from the ceiling.

If you haven't replaced the seals, dust caps and fork oil, now would be an excellent time to do so.

Catch it BEFORE it starts leaking all over your caliper! But I noly havd success with OEM fork seals. The ones on ebay leaked as soon as I put Rosie back on the ground!

I think I used Bel-Ray 10w. I also replaced the stock springs with Progressive Springs.
