I knocked my bike over, while pondering "rigid or soft-tail" and completely damaged the gas tank, I just removed the engine and sat the tank on to see the placement, and about a minute or so,
    BLAM (oh F%$@! )
So, my question is are there any certain models of bikes that the tanks will fit a 82 Seca xj750 without a major mod to frame, tank or wallet to ease my search online.
I guess my project is on hold

Paintless dent shops can do good work on tanks. If their "spoon" tools don't work they have methods to pull dents out. I just had one done. Pulled out a 3/4" deep dent to where I only needed a skim coat of bondo.

How bad is the tank? Post up some pics of it. It IS the Seca tank with the sides that curce in at the rear of the tank, right? Because if you had a Maxim tank on there for some reason I'd swap you. I want to get rid of my Seca tank. It has just been lined with Por-15 and I painted with bedliner, but that can be sanded down no problems and repainted.

Let me know if you're interested in the tank.

If your project includes using the side panels, you have no options.
If you're building a custom, a Seca 650, Maxim 650 and750 tanks will install with NO mods.
If you are willing to alter the supports, almost ANY tank that has a large enough "tunnel" can be made to fit, just keep in mind the petcock clearance.

its the seca tank, I tried to get it out to no avail, so I then grabbed the rubber mallet and tried to match the other side. Still no good. you wouldn't want it. l have a guy that is going to give me a tank off of a 900 suzuki so hopefully my worries are over. I will post pics once I figure out how, but will add them to my gallery later.

Get a dent puller from an auto store. Depending on how bad the dent is you can try and use what I call a toilet plunger type which holds on to the metal by suction and pull the dent out

    OR

if you can weld you could use a slide hammer puller, but you would have to clean the tank of all gas and fumes and weld the hole up where you screw the slide hammer into the tank.

    you could use bondo.

You can also try the "Ding King"-type dent puller. Hot-melt glue a pulling pin to the center of the dent, install pulling bridge over pin, screw-on knob on the top of the pin, crank the knob until the glue releases. I've been able to pull out several gentle dents without breaking the paint. Creased dents, only limited success (best left to the pros with weld-on pulling pins).

My brothers big into Harley restorations and he says the Harley guys use air pressure to take the dents out. Apparently you pressurize the tank and the dent will pop out.

I tried that but the dent was at the crease, nevertheless, in the last week,I have cut out the base off the pan and have plans of making a coffin tank out of it that custom fits my bike. I will keep you guys posted, thanks for all the help.
