Just wondering if anybody has had any experience with K&N air filter in a maxim x. I'm trying to replace my air filter but my local yamaha dealer can't get the original any more. K&N seems to be the most available but are there any concerns with having to re-jet? The bike has the original stock exhaust. Thanks in advance.

I have one. You shouldn't have to rejet with the K&N. If you want variety, I think Chacal has a few different types of filters, including a foam Uni that doesn't require rejetting.

Yeah I seen that Chacal has a few there and will probally get one from him if there are any issues with the K&N air filter. But if you have one on your bike and have no problems then I'll try it. I'm not looking for a performance increase just an air filter as I cannot get the original from yamaha any more. Thanks for the reply.

The rule of thumb is that you can change one thing in the intake/exhaust without having to re-jet.

ie - if you have stock exhaust, and go to a K&N air filter - shouldn't be a problem.

Two changed things - like the K&N AND an aftermarket exhaust - will very likely need re-jetting to get the mixtures right again.

Thanks for the info, looks like I'll go with the K&N. Thanks again.

This generally applies to drop in filters primarily; not so much Pod filters in place of the airbox, and stock exhaust.

When I got my bike she had pods and a beat up 4 in 1 exhaust and didn't work right at all. So I scrapped her and now bringing her back (slowly) to respectable bike again!!!!!! Trying to find parts is most of the battle.
