Hey all, does anyone sell Dyna coil mounting kits for XJ700X? I found HAP's page about the upgrade on Maxim-X.com, but I'm hoping to find something a little more solid looking. It seems that HAP's method kind of hangs the coils from the mounting bracket instead of bolting them on anything.

I'm not crazy about fabricating stuff, but I probably could if I could find a good step-by-step. Still, I'd rather find a kit of some sort if one is available.

    TIA!

Chacal sells a kit to mount the Dyna coils to the stock brackets.

HCP2882 Aftermarket Dyna Coils MOUNTING KIT. This complete set of adapter brackets allows you to easily mount the HCP245 Dyna coils into the stock coil mounting forward tube and rear bracket that are welded to your frame. Without this kit, you'll spend a good 4-8 hours (at least) and a few very frustrating trips back-and-forth to the local hardware store to cobble together and fabricate the special brackets and hardware needed to shoe-horn these large Dyna coils into the tight, cramped confines of the frame. For use on all XJ650, XJ750, and XJ900RK, RL, N/FN, and F models (not yet verified on XJ1100's yet). Complete set includes 4 adapter brackets and coil-to-bracket hardware. You can re-use your original coil-to-frame hardware, or purchase new replacement hardware below, if desired.

NOTE: the installation of the Dyna coils requires the removal, on most models, of the flasher relay holder bracket that is tack-welded to the lower right side frame tube and which intrudes into the coil mounting area. The Dyna coils will not clear this bracket, and it must be cut away and ground off flush to the frame tube. A "universal" re-locator bracket is included with this kit which allows the re-positioning of that relay to an area where it fits properly.

Thanks, I looked in Chacal's catalog, but somehow missed this! I wonder if it will fit on my XJ700X. As I understand it, the Xs are even tighter in the frame than the non-X bikes. I'll check with Len.

    Thanks for finding it.

Check his "new arrivals, too fresh to list" post, I think I just saw it there.

I couldn't find it, so I checked with Len. Curretnly, he has no mounting kits for the X bikes.

Any other suggestiongs? Or, barring that, are there any descriptions or write-ups about mounting them on an X besides the one at www.maxim-x.com? Any photos?

I have upgraded the coils and leads on my 3 Xs with dyna coils. Two have the green ones and the third the micro coils.

It is a straightforward job and takes about 1 or 2 hours and you do not need a fitting kit or special bracket to fit them.

I loosely followed HAPs instructions, but with 2 differences:-

    1. I removed the radiator so it is much much easier to remove (and later reinsert) the existing coil bracket (with prefitted dynas).

    2. The front end of the dyna coils mount with a longer threaded rod in the existing front mounting tube/holes.

Instead of making up a U shape rear support rod like he did, I used a hollow spacer over another threaded rod to keep the rear side of the dynas equally apart. Then I used a mid/heavy duty nylon zip tie around the spacer to 'suspend' them from the existing bracket tube.

The whole 'assembly' can be put together and tightened up in the existing bracket off bike and refitted from the front of the bike easily.

Three years later and the heat has not affected the zip tie in any way - bikes start first time every time.

Thanks for the suggestion, XJXLEE. I'll give it a shot.
