I am noticing a difference in mounting locations between Johno8's...

    ....and Iwin's control.

I designed a set similar to johno's but flipped them upside down (so controls are under footpegs. I haven't completed fabrication on those yet (cnc blew the comm board :( ) but after seeing Iwin's design I am wondering if one is more stable over the other (no offense to the designers!) Keep in mind that whenever I build something I have to fight my urge to over-design. You know what I mean....if a 3/8 bolt is plenty strong enough...I put in 1/2". If one pound of nails will hold the deck together...two pounds are even better!! :D lol

I added both control plates to a pic of my bike. Blue is my alteration of Johno8's design, the brown is Iwin's version. Does anyone see any inherent advantages/disadvantages of one over the other? Or am I sweating the petty things (not to be confused with petting the sweaty things 8O ) BTW a big THANKS to johno & Iwin for sharing their designs!! :D

The thought process for mine was if one motor mount bolt is strong two must be stronger. So I made them mount to two motor mount bolts and the frame. The overall length of the plate was determined by my leg reach from the seat.

Sitting on the seat my feet reach the pegs with just a slight bend in my knees which was my goal. They are super comforatble sitting still. Once I get my paint sorted out I'll report back on riding with them.

If you look at TC bros controls you'll see yet another mounting option.

If your inseam is less than 30 inches mine would be too far of a reach and johno's are farther out still.

It doesn't really matter which one you use...it becomes a matter of comfort and preference. I have a 32" inseam (5' 8") and wanted my legs to be stretched out as far as I could yet stay comfortable. At first I thought they were too far forward but after actually building them and using them for the past 2 1/2 years, I love them. With the 3 mounting brackets, they are solid. Good luck with however you decide to go...I'm sure you'll be happy.

Iwingameover any chance you have the cad file for that...those are just what I am looking for... If that can happen I would be greatly in debt. I can cnc these and not give the 179.00 to tc bros! Plus I can add my own love to the design to give them my own flair! Thanks man

I have an AutoCAD 2009 DWG file I can e-mail. They are solid models. The holes in the mounting plates are slightly off in the model. You'll want to verify your hole locations.

PM me an e-mail and I can get the file out to you.

If you want/need a source for rod ends I used this guy: http://www.xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=22640.html

Did anyone have any issues with clearing the exhaust? I can see from both designs that they are right there, and from my measurements need to come out about 1.25 inches to clear them. Any suggestions??? I was planning on bolting with the motor mount bolts that are right there and hopin for a suggestion on how to avoid the exhaust. Not really sure how the threaded rods work either, is it one behind the frame and 2 in front?? and are you guys using tube to go all the way aross and sinching it down with the rod or is the triangulaion keeping them in place?? maybe I am looking at them wrong.

iwin is that what you were talking about with the mod u had to make to ur design to clear the crank case. and so you bolt using the crank case bolts?? just dont want to have to make these to many times, although being a perfectionist I probably will

I have tube spacers behind the plates. The plates come out about even with the crank covers. The lower motormount bolts and the small bolts to the frame I replaced with new longer bolts. The top motor mount bolt was replaced with threaded rod that fits all the way through. I hope that makes sense.

The modifcation I was talking about in my e-mail to you was the lever for the brake. Mine hit the crank cover so I made the bottom side of the lever longer and cleared it.
