:?: I'm taking my final drive apart to replace seal and bearing on front side of pinion, bearing retainer(the part with the 4 notches) seems real tight, can any one tell me if this may have left hand threads or may be lock tight on it, or ways to get it loose.

I'm looking at Hynes... They appear to be regular RH studs with lock-tite. I suggest little heat and impact driver with 6 point drive.

It's supposed to be turned with a spanner socket. I successfully took one from a Venture apart by placing a punch against one of the notches and tapping. That won't work to re-torque it properly.

Replacing the bearing may require re-shimming of the pinion. Check the service manual.

I believe the nut on the pinion is staked on and should be replaced for reassembly.

I see this post is old but FYI the bearing retainer has LH threads
