I was recently riding in NorthernMichigan and while down shifting for a stop signal, I seam to have developed a vibration in the shaft/rear hub. The noise only persists while the rear tire is back driving the drivetrain. Has anyone had this happen and what is the best way to diagnose?

Not sure how to troubleshoot it, hopefully one of the gurus can help. Wonder if it's more like a clutch or tranny issue?

They pop up on E-Bay sometimes for as little as $15.

Have you checked the rear brakes? Do we have a delaminated shoe bouncing around inside the drum and trying to lockup but just buzzing and dancing instead?

It could also be a wheel bearing, or something loose.

You need to investigate right away.

Brake shoes look good... wheel bearings check out okay. I removed the ring gear cover and the main ring gear seams to be "clicky" when rotated. I'll replace this bearing and the needle bearing as well. I'll remove the shaft to check the U-joints and bearings.
