I put some hard bags on my XS last month, love them. They have built in tail lights, got them off EBAY for 114$ shipped. The lights that were included were crap so I installed some LED 1157 bulbs and sockets. They are nice now. I've been meaning to post some pics, just haven't gotten around to it.

Bill, normaly I don't care much for the King/queen seat.
But on your's it looks perfect. I agree bags are in order.
You've done a great job on the whole bike. Nice to see
another custom xj on the road.
Stock is nice but custom makes it yours IMHO.

Your seat looks great! Don't let Wiz tell you any different!

It has been my observation over the years that good upholsterers and metal fabricators/welders are something of a cross between magicians and miracle workers.

Scooter scooter scooter...( shaking head sadly) you have GOT to stop giving rides to your mom and her friends!! 8O Find some young hottie, tell her to hold on tight... and then make sure she does :D Just tell her before you take off.. "Once we get going don't distract me with trying to tell me something. Distractions cause accidents! Hang on tight so I'll know if you fall off." If she still gets on the bike..you found an adventurous type...and that's all I have to say about that ..... 8O 8) LOL

Is there any sort of internal frame for the sticky-uppy part? Or is it like one of those giant foam fingers?

Sorry, had to ask, I've never been a fan of stepped seats so have no frame of reference...

    Bigfitz,
Im not too sure about the sports finger deal (your guess is as good as mine).
It feels like there is steel coming up from the seat underneath to the backrest.

But if you would like some background on the seat... the original owner said it came from a 1980 xj but is was optional at purchase.

I really needed this seat. My GF and I do alot of things together and I didnt wanna leave her behind (funniest girl i ever met).

Im very proud to ride this bike. Some people I know would be embarrassed to ride something this old but, the way I see it is... Its paid for and I know how to work on it to keep it going.

Anyone that would be embarrassed to ride a bike that looks as good as yours and that's still on the road after 30 or so years, should be jealous, not embarrassed.

I'm not a fan of those seats, but if that's what makes you and your GF comfortable, that's all that matters. VERY nice bike.

Bill, I finally got some pics of the hard bags I put on my XS1100. The bags came with some cheap metal hangers, of course I did not use them. They would have worked but I wanted better. I had some 1 x 3/16 steel laying around and made a better and stronger bracket to mount then to. I like the way the lines flow with the XS , they would look good on your XJ.

Lets try again, excuse the dirt on the bags. I got stuck in the rain the other day.
