my 81 650 maxim has recently been harder and harder to start when i press the start button i some times have to wiggle it for it to start now when i press the button nothing happens the oil light comes on but the engine doesnt even try to start up. i checked to see if the ground and power were good on the starter button and it checked out so if any one has any ideas on what could be wrong id very much appreciate it thanks

could be a poor connection to the solenoid or the solenoid itself. could also be the starter failing. how did it behave when it was hard to start? turn over slowly, just click and not turn, or not even click?

well it was more like it was harder to find the spot where it would start the engine i would wiggle the button around tell it started. now no matter how i press the button it doesnt start.

first thing i would do is pull that switch/button apart and clean up the connection. also does it still have the original glass style fuse panel? they are known to corrode over time and cause poor connections at the panel (and the connectors get brittle over time so be careful when checking them). if cleaning the switch doesn't help, look there next.
