Has anyone changed their original paper element filter to a K and N filter on their 86 XJ700XS?

What were the results? Did the carbs need readjusting?

    Let me know-Jim

I have a Uni-filter(foam) on my 86 no jetting required and it works great.

K & N seem to be nice filters but not worth the hassle to me if you have to re-jet your carbs or experiment with re-jetting. I also have a Uni-Filter and i can clean it when it gets dirty with no problems and no messing around.

    and Uni`s are allot cheaper than K & N.

I have both the Uni foam and the K&N for my xj550. Both work with the stock air box and claim that no rejetting is necessary. When I first got the K&N I installed it without oiling it first and the bike ran way too lean. After properly oiling the K&N it still seems to run a bit lean, so I just put the Uni back in.
