I've been tuning up the bike for a couple of weekends now and I finally got to removing the stuck float bowl drain screws. I used the sweet screw removal tool but it's so jammed up it didnt work so sweet. it worked okay on two bowls. The third screw I was about to rip my hair out when it finally broke loose (the head almost removed from the screw. But this fourth one.. This is my last ditch effort to find a way to remove that screw before I try to find a new bowl. After about 30 mins of attempting and reattempting the removal, there is a hole drilled through the center all the way past the thread depth but the removal tools will not suffice anymore. What other methods do you guys have?

    Thanks for the input.

    Kyle

Are the bowls off the bike ?? If so, wash them to remove gas fumes or residue, & then heat the outside with a propane torch. They will come out easily.....

You should have taken this process on all of them....

Replace with hex head stainless steel ones rom Chacal.....

Yes the bowls are off the bike and they've been cleaned.. I took the advice of from this site to screw them to a 2x6 and clamp in a vice it worked really well.. except on the last one. I didn't heat though.. definitely worth taking the time to do that.. I really dont know if i'll be able to get anything in there even If I do heat it for removal now.

In hindsight, mine were stuck in there pretty good but not stripped....I screwed to 2 x4, clamped to vise, & then heated wih propane torch....& they came out unbelieveably easy....sorry you having trouble with fourth one....

Can you still get a screw extractor into the 4th one...you may have to drill out delicately until most of it is out without trashing the threads...good luck

I highly suggest replacing with hex head stainless steel ones....

REALLY! that puts a smile on my face, especially since the dealers in town don't even have any.

alright.. so a miracle happened today haha I went back home after work and boiled the bowl in water for a bit (since I dont have a propane torch or anything similar). I then attempted to extract the screw and it popped out!

Here is what the screw looked like afterward. Believe it or not, the threads in the bowl are still good, although i'll be more careful with them.

one side is blown out mostly because I had to use a relatively large drill but also because I just pried it off of the extractor. Just to show that the was caused by seized screws and not just because I didnt know how to use the tool, here's a comparison of the other three.

I appreciate everyone's input.. now it's time to find some replacements

I got a pile of Float Bowls.
Most came off Carbs I bought on Ebay that came off a running bike.

The insides of some look like a Georgia Prison-Camp Chain Gang tarred them after they got done with what was left after slopping a back-country road.

Others have Drain Screws in them that Jesus couldn't miracle out!

Yeah, I think a bunch of us here all have piles of the bowls....I have some too. You're lucky that your dealer was at least able to tell you he didn't have any. Most of them have no clue what you're talking about and so they can't even figure out if they have any or note, or can even get any or not. Here, if someone doesn't have it, Len Chacal WILL.

Hey, can we send your bowls to YOU to extract the screws......since you do it so well ?!??! LOL
