i'am getting ready to reassemble a rack of carbs and put them on the shelf, maybe for a long time
thinking of a dunk or spray of gas and marvel mystery oil, let them dry off and bag them with some desiccant, any better ideas ?
also the metal plate that goes over the air jets, use it or loose it

MMO isn't a bad thought, Kroil maybe, WD40 on the outside would be OK; I wouldn't use gas. Mine are wrapped in terry cloth towels, accompanied with dessicant packets, and loosely bagged in plastic.

:) too late already used gas and mmo and a few squirts of lps1. i'll let it dry over night and smear silicon grease on the diaphragms then finish it
your vinegar trick worked wonders on the screws
i know a guy who almost shot his wife because of wd40, but thats another story, i don't even have any

I wouldn't use plastic, if the humidity varies during storage you'll get condensation inside the package that will rust any ferrous metal. My suggestion would be terrycloth (like bigfitz52's) with masking (paper) tape to hold the cloth in place.
