Brother in-law has 'easy' clutch on his Suzuki. It's very soft and easy to pull.

My XJ clutch is fairly stiff and in busy city traffic sure gives the wrist a workout. Does anyone know if there is an easy clutch conversion for the XJs?

You can lube the cable and that will likely fix it up. Also, verify that the cable is routed properly (XJCD has a cable routing guide), as any sharp bends will make it difficult to pull.
If all else fails, perhaps a new cable ($15 or so) is in order. Make sure it's routed correctly when you install it.

Various lube maintenance will be on my spring list.

Other then the cable, there is nothing else one can do to make the clutch lever softer?

First try lubbing up the spring at the end of the clutch cable. I did this on accident and my clutch is like butter! :D

This got me so excited I ran to my garage and started looking for the spray lube. I pressed the clutch in and sprayed inside where the cable attaches to the lever. It’s better now but still pretty stiff. Not butter :(.

It does feel like it's more spring related issue then the cable but where the heck is that spring. I'll have a closer look tomorrow.

Yep, if lubing doesn't fix it then it will have to wait till spring for a closer inspection. Is Yamaha dealer the best place for replacement cable? Hmmm, maybe Ebay?

Most easy clutch kits involve a small pulley on which the clutch cable rides. If you can find one small enough and find a way to mount it you would be set.

When I had my '83 900, I lengthened the clutch actuating arm by 10mm.
this gave more leverage on the clutch and made the lever a one finger pull. Everyone used to tell me my clutch was shot when they felt the lever. Uh....yeah, OK.

All I did was weld a longer piece of metal onto the arm, then cut the hole for the cable holder 10mm further out. Finished it up and painted it. You couldn't even tell.
