Hello! I have a 1982 XJ1100 Maxim that I just changed the petcocks on and now am having trouble with. It starts up easily and runs until it gets warm. Once it is warm it starts backfiring and essentially stops running.

Does anyone have any suggestions. I have had a local engine guy look at it but he has no ideas.

Time to clean the carbs. You might try running some SeaFoam through the system to see if it helps any.

Tried that. Took them off cleaned them up. It is more like flooding in one of the carbs. I just baffles me that it only happens once it is warm.

Been there, done that eh? Hmmm... I'm not a carb guru, let's wait and see if anyone else chimes in.

    Your quote:
‘I just changed the petcocks on and now am having trouble with.’

    Just to confirm:
The bike ran good before you changed the petcock? ….
Why did you change the petcock?

Did you clean carbs AFTER the bike began this issue?

If it runs good cold, I assume you have fuel enrichment (choke) on.
The choke will add fuel to the mix creating a rich condition. Then when bike is warm and you disengage the choke it seems to be going lean. (Because if too rich were a cause, then it would run poor with choke engaged)
