    Ok gang, sound off.
What earmarks, benchmarks, expectations should a thread have to be considered worthy of posting in the FAQ Final Forum?
Moderators, I expect we'll have a spirited debate but I do want to get the ball rolling on this issue. It's time has come in my opinion.
I've taken the liberty of posting Rick's How-To...Whole 9 Yards thread there now. I noticed that we have pages of info on each. Is there a way to condense the vital info and photos into the least amount of needed space so as to simplify the FAQ?

I think condensation would be a good idea Robert. At least removal of subsequent posts that are non-essential, like the "Thanks for posting this" or " Great job!!" and maybe some of those that get off topic like..." Wow, great job on painting the rims. But how did go about getting the wheels off the bike..??" and then three other guys tell how to take the wheels and tires off ...

It's gonna be tough (I think) developing guidelines for the FAQness or FAQability of a thread. But it should be at least a How-I-did-it (if not a fully endorsed "Hot-To") and should be accompanied by a clear and concise succession of pics.... those are probably no-brainer criteria :D but at least now it has been said and can be documented as 'official' :D

    Agreed.

To be really outstanding each should be revised so it encompasses the extra information obtained from follow on questions, answers and suggestions.

Then the threads should be locked so they don't get cluttered up with a bunch of extraneous stuff.

+1 to what everyone has said. How to's/useful info/FAQs should go in there, with all the fluff & comments, unless they add to te subject should be removed. Grea idea Robert.

    EDZACHARY!!!

I for one, have NO PROBLEM with removing all the comments, etc., not directly applicable to the original thread and then locking it, at least when it comes to my stuff. A lot of time and effort went into those, and having them more easily accessible would be a plus.

I always assumed an "FAQ Suggestion" would get reviewed and moved to FAQ "Final" in some sort of timely manner; but you know what assumptions do...

I think the criteria should be very simple; as long as it contains valid tech info and contributes to the good of the site it should be considered. Personally I always try to do stuff that either isn't in the manuals or needs major clarification, as has everybody else from what I can tell.

GO FOR IT! Although Len has apparently trumped the game already, it sure won't hurt. While you're at it, pull the rear brake warning out of "Announcements" and put it where people might actually see it, PLEEEZE?

(I'm working on "Clutches 101" and a bit on exhaust gaskets right now; "headlight modulator" is on the horizon.)

Now I've gotta go dig up "Be the Bunny" and 'bump' it, since there's no SAFETY or SAFE RIDING forum (shuddup Fitz...)

I'd suggest we make sub categories under the main FAQ section, then put the relevant section in a post under that.

    For example, have subsections like:

    Engine
    Fuel
    Chassis
    Electrical
    Brakes

Then have a post that contains the actual info, titled accordingly. Say like under Fuel, have a post with Rick's The whole 9 yards, Then another post with something from Len that's fuel related etc etc.

Len could move/copy his Vin thread or whatever else into an INFO sub catagory.

Would make for better organization and easier finding of the info i think :)
