I'm looking into upgrading to LED's for all my guage lights and tail light, but not signals because for the moment I'd like to keep the OEM flasher and self-canceller.

I understand that LED's use less power so you're lessening the draw on the alternator. Others seem to do this so they can add other accessories.

If I lighten the load on the alternator and don't add anything else to it, can this have any negative effects? I know it seems like a dumb question. I would assume the answer is no, and that if anything this will strengthen the overall integrity of my electrical system.

But I was just wondering if by some slim chance, that the extra energy can have a negative effect on the performance of my bike? or is the little bit that I'm saving merely negligible?

Nope! No harm will come of it. Less is best in this case. Another advantage with led's is that you can select from a number of different colors depending on your taste, or lack of same

I have done exactly what you are looking into. The side benefit that I have seen is that my battery is 100% fully charged after every ride :)

I'm slowly working on this - same not touching blinkers yet.

Tail light cluster is in the mail. Hope to pull apart instrument panel. No one commented when I asked what bulbs to order, so I have to rip it apart first :(

I'm also hoping to "rig" some driving lights on my front end and swap in some LED bulbs, then wire them into the aux light switch (dumping aux light). The lights would be for conspicous (sp) use only. I plan on installing a fairing so I'll lose the aux light anyways. Post/Pics to follow once I figure out/make a bracket.

Thanks a lot guys. Thats what I needed to know. Lower resistance = better for the alternator and bike in general. Having the battery be fully charged and capable of starting the bike is what I need.

I need to replace the alternator brushes, and then upgrade to LED"s and hopefully this will help performance and reliability when starting.

Love Superbright, I've used them for a lot of other projects.

Can you post a pic of your gauges with the above posted setup?
