maxim 550. My first bike progect!

    here is my 1981 maxim 550. i paid $200 for it. it runs pretty good and all the gears work. so far i cleaned the carbs and replace the pilot jets. replaced them because the head was stripped on one of them so i had to drill and use an easy out to get it out. so replaced all of them. my plans are custom exhaust, hardtail,custom handle bars, and probably pods because i love the look. here is a pic of the bike.

    ok here is my latest progress. going to finish stripping the bike today and cut the frame. anyone know what tubing is the best to use for a hardtail. like the guage and what material.

    I used 1" steel tubing on mine if that helps.

    You want some DOM steel tubing. diameter to match your existing frame and a wall thickness around 1/8 (0.125") Don't use pipe. Pipe and tube are different.

    thanks man im gonna go tommorow and get my tubing. I cut my frame today will post a pic tommorow.

    still have some more cutting to do but its definately a start.definately past the point of no return now. im thinking about stretching it 4 or 5 inches.
