this might be a modification question. i have a huge hole in my left muffler. want to go to a 4-1 setup. the only thing ive found that explicitly states it fits the 550 is the mac which seems a little pricey and on 5 weeks back order. does anyone know of any bikes that have an effectively interchangeable exhaust with the 550 seca? i know getting exhaust for the 650 is much easier so if that would fit thatd be great. or if any newer more common bikes have exhaust that wold fit thatd also make things easier. any ideas would be helpful.

Some guys use Harley sportster mufflers. They seem to fit with minor mods

there are a ton of mufflers you can use. depending on price you want to spend. the mufflers don't come off. you actually have to cut them off. then you've got y ourself a nice hole. the new mufflers will just slide in the hole and you figure out a mounting solution to the bike.

there are ways to replace your mufflers. you just got to be creative.

unless your intent is to replace the whole system. which can be rather pricey.

I run an FZ600 exhaust on my 550 Seca. It is off an 86 model. You will neet to fab a rear mounting bracket off the right passenger peg but it is easy to do. I have seen these pipes on Ebay for around $99.

Not true. He has a 550, they unbolt. ("Unclamp.")

The 550 exhaust system is largely dependent upon the collector box. You can use about any mufflers that will fit and you like the looks of, without a need to rejet or remove the centerstand, etc.

There was a 550 Seca on eBay just recently that had 550 Maxim mufflers on it and I have to admit it looked pretty sharp.

I'm pretty sure the only commonly available 4-1 is the MAC. Kerker used to make one (my '81 had one on it when I got it) but they are long discontinued.

A company called JAMA Originals makes slip-on replacements, I believe they are offered in the States by Lazer Exhaust. There are also a wide variety of other slip-ons available that will fit.

If you get a MAC keep an eye on your plugs. I've got a set on my 650 and although they don't say re-jetting isn't required under load my plugs are pretty white (expecting a set of 114s and 116s in the mail soon, thanks Chacal!)

the mac exhaust is on backorder and much more expensive than the ebay fz600 exhaust. Zombiehouse - what did you have to do for the rear mounting bracket?

I used a universal exhaust mounting bracket that I hung from the right rear footpeg mount and ran it straight back to the exhaust mounting tab. It worked great. Looked good on the bike too.

Here are 2 pics of the exhaust. One with the FZ600 pipes and another with a Supertrapp setup.

Zombie I really like the way that supertrapp looks on that bike.

As for the original question, If your not afraid to cut and weld you can make some pretty neat looking exhausts, or at least fabricate something that works, like I did. Pics soon.

I don't think the center stand will work with the FZ600 pipes. I think that might be why I removed mine. I don't remember exactly. It works with the SuperTrapp though.

I sure like the look of that FZ600 exhaust on there... Wouldn't mind that on my Seca.
