I'm looking to install the Vector Vapor dashboard indicator. If I could figure out how to post pics, I'd share. Lemme see what you've got.

does this use the same connections as the stock xj650's cluster?
it seems to be a lot more high tech connection wise.

google "trailtech" and "acewell" mine is a acewell 3200 not shown anymore
the same connections? the basic unit uses a lot less wires than the stock cluster so there is some rewiring to do and a lot of wire hiding
there is a extra part for mine anyway that adds turn signals hi beam and a few more, so then it might use all the wires you have now

thanks schooter, i think it's my subconscious telling me i want another dirt bike

    OK, since you asked:

NOT stock; much more useful. I really like how the tach and speedo needles now point approximately the same direction on the instrument face at highway speeds in top gear, like my Norton, my car, or any other tach-equipped vehicle I've owned.

What you can't see are the superbright 5-element LEDs used as instrument lighting, you can actually SEE them at night.

(I have an electronic Yamaha tach that actually matches the speedo but haven't fitted it yet.)

Oh, sorry: Brand new NOS XJ900 speedo, $20 off eBay. Pretty much dropped right in.

    Here you go...

And, yes, it's a bicycle computer. No, there's no tach. I wanted something that was small so I could make sure I'm not speeding TOO much. :)

I did some research before I bought one. Turns out lots of people have used them on motorcycles. I went with a Sigma brand since I found numerous web sites saying they read accurately to over a 100 mph. But let's be honest, are you really looking at the speedometer when you're going that fast?
I've been a bit busy lately and haven't verified the speed with my phone or by following a car. That will come soon.

ok...#1 are you sure this is from an XJ900...in my search of ebay, units with this configuration are always listed under "1982 YAMAHA 550 SECA XJ550 SPEEDOMETER" or similar variation..

#2 You either need to be arrested for STEALING this part...or you need to become my personal PA ( Parts Acquisitioner )
Any NOS gauge items on Ebay that I find start at $140!!! Good steal! :D

LOVE the xj900 speedo setup on bigfitz's bike.
am also digging the vapor setup.
i know i want to change out my original cluster as it really screams "80's!" and am looking at all examples for consideration.

That's one of the best setups I've seen so far. Can you tell me the components you used. I saw the information on the speedo, what about the other components? Thanks and again, very nice indeed!

    Mine?

    http://www.mikesxs.net/products-46.html#products

    Part #03-0748 - speedo

    Part #03-0675 - tachometer.

They're very small, very discreet, but convey everything I need, and fit the cafe racer style.

the speedo is cable driven, just like the xs650. The cable is the same and everything, it fits right into the gauge.

Tach is electronic. And they sell an electric tach (though I'm still trying to figure out how to wire the tach)

Here's my Takegawa analog twin clocks I put on some of my restorations. These are really nice and kind of "old school".

Here's mine. Also from mikes XS. Very small but does what I need it to do, and its not a big ugly eyesore. two pics included one of a closeup and the second from a distance so you can see it in relation to everything else on the bike.

Thanks, I absolutely love them and they look even better at night. I got them from www.honda50.com, can't remember but think they were like $400 and came from Japan. Go check out some of these crazy custom bikes, you won't believe it.
