    Hello,
After I bought the bike I found that the #4 carb body was cracked and sealed with epoxy. When I got the bike, it wouldn't start without starter fluid. Also the "choke" had to be open, and the idle was high. So after reading so much here, I realized the carbs needed a good cleaning and after doing so the epoxy softened and the piece came off. I assume the bad seal around the diaphragm was causing a vacuum leak and causing the high idle.

Anyway, is there a way to reattach this piece or is it junk? I found a spare set, but would still like to salvage it as a backup if I can.

Thanks, and here are the pics:

Edit: Just realized both pics were the same. Added new pic

Dunno where you got Tim from; it's Fitz. And Tim is NOT my first name, honest.

That hunk is broken out of the side of the diaphragm chamber; there'd be no graceful way to fix it. That's what spare carbs are for, as you already know.

    Sorry, my name is Tim.

I guess I'll just strip off any usable parts and toss it.

    Thanks again Fitz.

You can repair that, using Q Bond, or whatever you have there similar (metal powder & superglue) you have to grind the 2 meeting edges to a 'V' fill it with the Q Bond & sand flush.

Looks if the diaphragm cover was pryed off at one point, there's no other reason for anything to contact the body as it's fairly well protected, once installed. There should be enough donor carbs floating (no pun intended) around.

ditto on the junk, u could try and fix, but it looks like a waste of time, and an easy way to make small problems with the carbs, and there touchy enough without more problems

Looks like the PO broke the body trying to remove the cap screw. I've seen them broken in the same spot a few times. You can try to repair it with 2 part epoxy if they mate up well enough for a quick fix, but I'd be looking for a replacement.
