Hopped on the 81 seca 750 yesterday. A bit colder in tundra land. Turned over, but would fire right away. After several attempts, it would fire but wouldn't stay running. Battery was getting low and I needed to get to work. Put the charger on it for 10 minutes. Tried it and started up. Put choke on to keep it running while I put the side cover and brain bucket on. Ran fine. I had choked it trying to get it started after the initial no start. Thoughts? I was wondering about the fuel filter or gas issue. Was turning over for some time. Spark seems ok.

Have your battery load-tested at an auto parts store. These bikes are very hard to start on a weak battery.
A battery maintainer would be a good investment, too. They are a lot cheaper than replacing batteries every year...

Thanks Stereo. I typically have problems with the battery being low on fluid and replaced it not long ago. Any particular battery tender you would recommend? I was not sure if it was the battery, as it was turning over, just not firing or maintaining firing. Though I did wonder about why it started after the charge. I was thinking it was moving the bike may have loosen something up in the fuel.

Batteries that are constantly low of fluid indicate a charging system problem (the battery is being over-charged), usually due to corroded connections within the charging system harness......

Could this be my charger? Or can I just clean off the connections?

The barrel connectors on the three white wires coming off the stator are notorious for corroding and overheating to the point of complete failure.

It may be a good idea to test the charging output... Rev the bike to 3K or so in neutral, and measure the voltage on the battery posts. It should be somewhere between 13.5 and 15V.

I'm currently using a Harbor Freight charger/maintainer, and also had good luck with a cheapo Schumacher battery tender (till I drop-tested it), but there are many others... Everyone seems to have their favorite... Just don't use a high amperage automotive charger.

Did you replace the fuse box?

One of the first things to go was the fuse box.
