I used an NOS one from an XJ900 in my 550 Seca:

Had to lose the trip meter reset knob (for now) and modify the inner housing ever so slightly but then it dropped right in.

    Sorry, I misunderstood.

You have a lot of difficult differences to overcome-- your 550 has a mechanical tach and I believe that one is electronic; there are a WHOLE LOT of sensors the panel will be "looking for" that the 550 doesn't have, and the mounts are different.

The first step would be to remove your cluster and see if the mounting ears are spaced even close to the same.

The 750 Seca cluster should bolt in but the wiring is a whole different story as Bigfitz mentioned. Your best bet is to get the correct cluster unless you are set on the conversion. You will need the wiring diagrams from both the 550 and the 750 to start with. You will also need a connector contact removal tool (a small jeweler's screwdriver works just fine). You will also need a selection of wire and new connector contacts to mate your existing harness to the new cluster. A bit of work but with a little knowledge and perseverance, you can do it. I have both a 550 and 750 panel I would be willing to sell if you are interested.
    Good luck!

I would simply "bypass" the sensors that you don't actually need. The battery sensor for instance is a nice toy but rarely works correctly anyway, from what I understand.

The sensors can be easily by-passed or joined to the sensors you currently have. You can also remove the sensor indicator and install your own gauges. It depends upon how handy and electrically savvy you are.
They are called Ataris because they resemble (in a very odd way) the Atari game consoles of the late 70's, rather large and clunky. I happen to like the gauge cluster off of the 82 750 Maxim myself. I have converted both of my 750 Secas to the Maxim cluster.

I kinda like the Atari. Not in a "Wow that's really cool" way, more in a "that's definitely not typical of what you see on the road".

BTW, one of my other bikes has a complete digital dash. 1985 Honda XR350R. It's a collector bike now, and I'm not getting rid of it for nothing. That bike still runs and rides great.

Re: How can i place the XJ750 Seca Speedometer all the cockp

Here are some photos of my 82 Seca sporting an 82 Maxim gauge cluster.
The only mods I needed to do was to add a diode to the harness (available from Chacal) and splice in a ground to the center contact slot of one of the connectors. I can send you full size pics if you like.

Im thinkin that i will not have problem with flash, neutral, high beam, speedometre and tachometre, the problem is with the conections of the liquid crystal panel and with the control and check buttons.
My xj 550 dont have sutch equipment,i know im ask too mutch but can you post a wire diagram of what you thought about this problems??

Not to hijack but where did you get that shroud for the Atari? Mine didn't come with one, but I like it!

Sorry Itom, I'll try to accommodate you but it won't happen this week, perhaps this weekend... (notice a trend?)
Marshall- it arrived with the unit (flea-bay score). Yamaha sold these things as an accessory, good luck finding one now. I lost out on one for regular can gauges last year, bummer. I am interested in having more made and would sacrifice the one I have if any one might be able to mold more of them.

Re: How can i place the XJ750 Seca Speedometer all the cockp

Thanks Robert. It just gives me ideas. It can't be hard to find something relatively close. Metal is easier to shape that way than plastic, at least at home. So it might be some aluminum sheet metal with welded reinforcement is all that is required.

    Thanks!

Ok the attari is from Yamaha XJ750Seca,the fuel gauge is from Suzuki GSX1100 F,and the temperature gauge is from Kawasaki KLR250,if i have a little more space i could fix something from Honda 8O :D

Itom32, I am so sorry, I blew you off. Good price on the cluster! And it is nice shape too! I don't know if the 550 fuel sender has the same resistance as the 750 that your gauge cluster would need. I will try to obtain that information for you. The headlight and taillight indicators require that the headlight and taillight lines run through the computer. The rest of the indicators are simply switches: brake, sidestand, oil. I have the schematic for the gauge setup if you need it but I won't be able to scan it in until next week. This is all provided you still want to mate the existing gauge with the stock 550 setup. It looks like you are headed other directions with this. Let me know what you want to do.

    Hi Robert,
Yes i must say that i would like to save the computer from the atari for future use, couse i think it is very sensitive, and i can destoy it if i fix something wrong. The analoge fuel and temperature gauge is something that i can do myself easy.So if you like you can post the schematic and share your knowledge with me.Perhaps i will dare something in the future.
Anyway i would like to thank you for your kindly interest.
