Going to shopping for a new set of tires for the 83 750 Maxim. I have Dunlops on one of my other bikes. Any feed back on any other brands?

I love my Avons. (AM26 RoadRiders.) Stickier than the Dunlops but I get a sneaky suspicion they won't last as long.

Looks like I'm gonna get around 11K miles out of the rear D404 on my '81 550 Seca; by contrast the Avons on the '83 have around 3000 miles and the rear looks like it's approaching half-life.

I was gonna try a set of Bridgestone Battlax' on the 650 Seca just to compare. They're one of the few that don't have a continuous center groove in the front, an important consideration for me.

I have great service from my Bridgstone Spitfires. they have a dual tread compound so they resist forming the tire recking flat spot in the center of the rear tire if you dont ride hard enough through corners to wear out the side walls before the center tread. They are also inexpensive.

Have had good luck with the d404's as well. Got a Shinko 712 now and it is a bit wide for my liking, very close to rubbing drive shaft.

Shinko 712's.. Best bang for your buck IMO. Nice and pliable, with good grip and average tread wear. Not to mention you can get a set of front & rear for like 95 bux including shipping.

http://www.dunlopmotorcycle.com/tirecatalog_tire.asp?id=37 (not sure how to post a link so you can just cut and past it) my friend just had a set of these put on an 81 650 maxim. after riding his bike I liked them so much I put a set on my 83 750 maxim. and as far as tires go there cheap.

I have run through 4 pair of Metzler Lazertecs on My 750 Seca
They are enjoyably fun to have on a sporting Jaunt.
I run a 130 rear with no shaft drive issues

They do however have a shorter lifespan, but I do however ride the snot out of my bike.

I order my tires through Chapperal Motorsports. Low prices, free shipping, and great customer service. At least that was the last time I ordered from them a year ago...well maybe the Metzlers DO have a decent lifespan :p

Metzler ME880 series on the front and rear. Great performance, good life time, good all around touring or light sport touring tire. These things also handle the weight of our older, heavier bikes well. They make a "Reinforced" version for my XJ1100 that works great!

Thanks for all the imput guys. I still have not bought any yet. I know Fitz likes Avons. I wonder how they wear.

good price on them duros. 105 for mine both front and rear.

problem is. how long are they going to last.

i've got dunlop k555 on the rear. bridgeston 62h exedra on the front.
both tires are the original tires from day one. bike has almost hit 10k miles.

we're taking a west coast trip next year that could easily hit 2k miles. that's a pretty hefty expense if the replacement tires go bald during the trip.

i like the idea of cheap. but cheap don't work if they don't last.

I am running Kenda tires on all my bikes 2 maxims, and 2 victories, and I absolutley love them, in the rain and any other way. been running them a couple years now, very cheap on ebay and very good treadwear.

+1 on the Kenda's. Nice price too. Whatever you do don't buy Cheng Shing, cheap junk that PO put on felt like riding through sand.
