Went to pick this up as a parts bike. He said it wouldn't start. Talked him down to $350. Put my ignition box from my bobber on it and it fired right up. Fixed the tank and now I have a $350, street ready, special edition, 17xxx mile, 1983 Maxim Midnight 750. Clear title.

How old are the tires and have you checked the rear brake for delamination yet? "Street ready" might be a bit optimistic...

    Good find though.

The brakes work but they're a little slow to react. Tires are new. I drove it all weekend long. It's great. It's clean, no dents, no scratches. Has a torn seat and I'm waiting on the side cover you see missing. He said it's in his garage somewhere. I wouldn't hesitate to get on it and drive to work in rush-hour traffic. I'll take more pics in the sunshine when I get the tank back on.

Whether the back brakes function or not, take the rear wheel off and check the pads. They tend to delaminate over time. I have personally seen 2 sets do it. If the do it when you are riding it could lock up the wheel and cause a nasty wreck.

    I'm just wondering whether to:
    a) ride it and start looking for different parts for my bobber project
    b) sell it so I can buy parts for my bobber project
    c) start chopping it and make it my new bobber project

Considering its already "blacked out" engine and stuff... SHOULD make a great foundation for a bobber. NO?

yeah, it would be easier. it's just i've already bobbed the other bike and pulled it all apart. I'm out of money for parts. Something has to be sold.

it's shaft drive, sucky foundation for a bobber, sew the seat up, replace the side cover, and polish it up and sell it in the spring, make mad money for an xs650 or sohc cb750

There's some people crazy for the Midnight Bikes.

You got a pretty good deal.
I'd pimp it all up and tune it.
Sell it for a grand all ready to roll.
    Win-win.

I agree... Sell it, make some money, and buy another bike to chop up.

I'm definitely fixing the seat. That's not a problem at all. In fact, I'm actually going to shape it down a bit so my little legs have an easier time reaching the pavement. The side cover is in limbo. I listed it today on Craigslist for a little over a grand; I'm hoping someone will call with an offer of a/b $1000. I mean it's immaculate for an '83. I even have the gold Yamaha emblems for the sides of the tank.

Late in the season for people to be looking for a Bike.

You should really Clean and Tune it up.
Price it at $1300. as a low-miles runner.
Get a Grand or more when Bike-fever is in full bloom.
