While cleaning my carbs, I popped off a float tower. Was a clean break right where the tower comes out of the body. Some Gorilla Glue super glue has it back in place, and seems to be very strong. I thought about using JBWeld, but have had experiences where JBWeld let go.

Ok, so here's my question...The very top of the tower is only in contact with gas when bouncing around, so it's not like it's soaking in it. What I was thinking is the Goriila Glue Super glue, and then cover the entire joint with solder...would seal it off and add a little strength. Any thoughts as to why that wouldn't work? Not like it's holding any real weight, just some vibration and the occasional bump.

The Glue will contaminate the solder so it probably will melt doubt you will get the solder to stick. The gas actually creeps up the metal inside the carb bowl so it does get on that part even when its sitting still best repair is a weld nothing else can really be counted on to hold . Tried the JB Weld myself one time it lasted for a short time good luck.

You're right...the solder wouldn't stick no matter what I did. BUT, I did some reading on the Gorilla Glue Super Glue, and it is supposed to be "gas-proof". So far it's held for a couple of days with the bowls filled. We'll see. was also thinking about the super glue...then a very light coating of a gasket material made for gas.

I remember seeing a pic in a thread, which I don't think was even about the float pillars, but whoever it was had dovetailed the pillar into the carb body.

There's a guy in "Other Motorcycles" who broke off a float mount for a XS400 and fastened it back on with gas tank repair epoxy. So far so good. Subscribe to his thread to see the long-term effectiveness.

You should look for a Used Carb Body and swap all your parts over to the replacement.

Look at the LINK I posted on the other Post.

Having it LASER Welded will Fix it for good.

I have been living with this for years. PO broke it I found it and have been JB welding it every year since. A new carb body is the answer but who has the time for that. I have problems with running rich on that cylinder all the time. Going to fix one day.

Some jobs you should do; but can't find time for require "Special tactics".

One Special Tactic is: Pulling an All-nighter.

I've done some of my very best work, very late at night ... under No Loud Noise regulations.

You can get an awful-lot done when you're burning the Midnight Oil.

Ha ha ha ha... I'm chuckling 'cause I am a lifetime member of the midnight oil club. Funny how you seem to be able to focus without the day's distractions. Glad to know I'm in good company.
