the 2 bikes i have redone recently both had titles( still have not sold the Wing though). Gettting a little ration of crap from the wife about not selling it before i start another. Oh Well. I have included a pic, this is before i have even started cleaning it and just rolled it off the trailer. It needs 2 mirrors, repaint, seat reupolstered, gas cap, ignition switch, a service, carbs cleaned and gone thru and same with brakes. Given all that plus a potential 395.00 title fee and 330.00 purchase price , what is your opinion. I have always loved jap standard bikes ( had an 83 Sabre and an 82 GS650G in the 80s) and i remember admiring this bike in the Yamaha showroom. It def has potential especially with just 5600 on the odo.
    Well?
    Thanks
    Jeff

    No pic!!!!

I say keep it, you will be happy with it in the end. Everything you need to do here is pretty much what you would end up doing on another bike for that price.

Figure on dropping at least $800~1k with all of the damage you listed. I dropped almost $800 into my 82 Seca before I was riding it and it still is a little rough (I'm not one for appearances). Worth the money provided you ride it. I like mine enough to endure the headache my wife gives me over how many bikes I've got.

I find my wife didn't say much when she was riding one of the bikes. Actually, she has not questioned the number of bikes. I have 3 with 2 licensed riders and I continue to look at other bikes. I keep thinking I would like a nicer bike and love seeing good deals. I come back to the '81 seca 750. Not pretty, but love the bike. I have little stuck into it $ and it keeps me on the road. Keep your bikes!

think i can get a title in Mo thru abandoded vehicle. Just have to get it inspected by the Highway Patrol etc. and about 50.00 in fees. If that works i am in like flint. Should be OK. I also forgot tires. The back has some BAD dryrot. What should i expect to spend on tires?

Depends on which tires you want.
$50~100 a piece for cheap ones. They can cost much more!

prolly depends if i decide to keep it or flip it. I cant imagine tires that cost 50.00 bucks being worth much.

Cheng Shin tires BLOW (I've hated every one that I encountered) but I've gotten good service out of my Kenda Challengers (and at under $60 not a bad deal).

Dunlop D404s for the 650 Seca would be $55.99 (100/90-19 front) and $67.99 (120/90-81 rear) from Dennis Kirk. And there're no complaints about D404s.

You might want to check around in your area for a tire store that also does motorcycle tires, rather than a dealership or cycle shop. I get my tires from a tire store that has all the right equipment, a "dedicated" motorcycle guy, and generally matches internet pricing within $1. Plus they charge less for mounting and balancing since I buy from them.

Thanks to Fitz's advice I bought the Dunlop 404s for my Maxim and I do love them.

A bit more wear than I'd expect but it does not appear to be excessive as regards bike tire wear. I have 6K miles on them and it looks like at this rate there's another 3-4K left to go on the front & maybe another 6K on the rear.
