Just saw this on the weather channel. Do you guys know how to deal with this? Do any of you own a jacket? Are you hugging your engine as you ride your XJ?

3 Deg F here in colorado right now. Supposed to be -5 tonight. No bike riding on the ice, no way, no how. Now the 4 wheeler will get broken out and ridden. Should be fun.

I'm bike-less at the moment, brother swiped it two months ago and won't give it up (my commute is only a mile and his 30 so I don't really argue too much). I'm guess this gives me more reason to get the Seca in running trim. Oh yeah Max, I did snuggle down last night, it was pretty cold. Found out my sweetheart had turned off the heater a week and a half ago when we had that warm spell over the Christmas/New Years holiday.

I should call it cheating if the sweetheart kept you warm! But I have been keeping warm the same way so , fair play dude! I hope the orange crop fairs well and also hope you get the Seca going by the time fair weather comes back around.
So is your brother driving the 30 miles in the 38 deg temp? Wonder where his limit is? I found mine on that toys for tots run. I stop at somewhere below 30deg F for anything longer than 10 miles.

I think he is far more motivated than I am, he has the gas bill from his Ford Exploder to pony up to every month. He takes the Conejo grade every morning on the 101 south to Thousand Oaks. Brrrrr... I did lend him my Aerostitch suit along with a set of Widder gloves so I guess he should be ok.

SOmetimes there is a fine line between what you can ride in and what you can't. I'm not to worried about the cold but luckily our temperatures never drop much below 40 F even in the middle of winter. Right gear and all is good.

But right now I'm at the other extreme.

Been for four dips in the pool today, Currently 6:30 PM at 88.5 F and I'm sitting outside (wireless laptop ;) ) in nothing but shorts. Got a cold beer with me that gets warm by the time I get to the bottom.:(

Todays max temp here was 107.7 F. Just far too hot to pack yourself up in gear and go for a ride.:( And far too hot to go into a tin shed and work on the bikes. :(

Time to go get another cold beer.

Now 107 is a hot day! I remember riding through Phoenix and seeing a temp on a bank clock of 116. I thought that was enough until I passed the next bank and it said 117! That's when I decided to get off the bike and have a cold one myself. Had the feeling it was just going to get worse. IS that a typical temp in Oz or is there a heat wave ongoing?

Fairly typical temp for January/February. Weather has been very strange lately but not abnormal. Even had rain last week.

Prefer the cold though. At least another layer of clothes helps. In the heat you soon run out of layers to remove. :(

I'm going to suggest that you string up a tarp for shade and work on the bike outside rather in the tin oven. At least there you should be able to accomplish something with the time. Too hot to paint too.

Man, weve had a weird winter here in maine this year. We usually have below zero temps in december. This year though, We had record highs for the state in december and in the first week of january ( in the high fourtys and low fifteys) But now we are finally back to normal and seasonable temps; around -5 below. Theres no way in hell Id ride in anything below 20s. And even in the 20s its gonna be only to the corner store and back.

I live in Seattle, and I actually crashed my bike in December on a patch of ice, so my new limit is 32f. It's so wet around here that if it ever drops below freezing, there's gonna be ice somewhere.

I was surprised when ArizonaSteve posted his low temps. Today I hear they will have ice in Tucson! I was talking to a sales rep in Conn. and she told me how they had been having 70 deg days there. Just like Maine, that isn't normal this time of year! Truely an unusual winter.

Here in Ontario we've been having a pretty warm winter actually - in your quaint Fahrenheit system 8) we've been staying between 10 to 20 degrees.

I have been watching a show on Discovery about a British SF trooper who has himself dropped off in various locations to show survival tatics. On one episode he was dropped off in the Ontario wilderness. With temps like that, I could survive and be out in 5 days just like him!
Some of us Southern XJer's have a trip planned this summer up to Canada for the big annual Carb Clinic. Should be going through London about June 15. Hope to meet you then.

1: London Ontario is about as far North as Flint Michigan

2: A lot of Ontario is way way much farther North than that.

BlueMaxim, a stop in Detroit will also be expected.

I may just have to take a ride over to London with you.

Where in Canada is the carb clinic you refer to?

HEY! My family used to vacation just 50 mi North of there when I was a kid. I know a great lake......

Hard to take the XJ and the boat though. Tough choice.

Well, D.V. has a house on the lake. Don't know which lake but some of the XJer's will camp on the beach for the carb clinic. I believe he has his own boat anyway.

I don't see myself making it to Huntsville, although I wish I could get the time.

I'd have to trailer if I did it, the XJ650 would wear me out on a ride that far.

Do you guys ride up there, or trailer them?

In any case, hope anyone passing through Detroit will make a pit stop. I'll even coordinate with the local XJers if you'll have a few hours to spend.

BlueMaxim - for the run up to DV's depending on when you're in this area, I might just be joining you! I'm planning on heading up to his place on the 15th anyway.

MiCarl - I'm originally from Thunder Bay, Ontario, and that's about 3 hours north of Duluth Minnesota - how's that for northern ontario?

DV's just north of Huntsville on Waseosa Lake. We (well, most) ride the XJ's up, and have had folks come from as far as Halifax, Nova Scotia (I think that's the record distance for XJ ridden so far). For me, it's about a 5 hour ride, give-or-take a few, so if you came it's about 7 hours saddle-time.
Even if you don't come all the way to Dwayne's for the weekend, you're always welcome to come for the ride as far as you like. I'll be riding up there on the Friday and returning on the Saturday (eve). Looks like I might be joining a larger crowd riding up though :D

The low temps were just a start. A few day after that it snowed here!
That's going to be hard for anyone to believe this summer when it's 120 again. Now it's back up to nearly 70 and sunny already.

Where I live it's currently about -33 C with the windchill.

We have to put our bikes away for about 5 months of the year. For those of you not familiar with the centigrade ( C ) when both C & /Fairh (F) reach -40 its the same temperature.

I only wish we had some of your nice weather. Maybe global warming will help us out.

    Dave
