    All right.
The battle with MY speedometer woes is over.

As you can see my solution was simple and $20 should get the thing modified to where you can get power to it on long hauls and what not. (water proof covering)

I got the App in the App store for free and there are many many versions to choose from.

There are a few that have trip meters and the accuracy is better than your stock speedometer.
I found a really good one that will give you HUD ( heads up display ) on your windshield if so desired. (with the correct mounting bracket of course)

i bought my mount for $18. it's not a ram mount though.

for power supply i bought a plug that has 2 usb ports and 2 cigarette sockets.($20). figured they would come in handy for those people that need to make a phone call but forgot to charge there phone. (provided there phone is usb plugin). i'm also packing a 12v tire pump and tire repair kit. once in awhile someone gets a flat tire or just needs a little air.

gps rules compared to stock speedo. and there are plenty of free programs out there. i have about 5 programs i can use. one of them is just a plain speedo only program. i also have copilot program on my phone. full fledged tomtom gps without internet required.

    i have an android phone.

    i'm looking for speakers myself.

but finding a set of speakers with amplifier is pretty expensive.

phones don't put out enough wattage. you'll never hear the speakers once that bike is fired up. that's why the speaker kit comes with amplifier.

    Snowwy66,
You can find a pair of speakers and a amplifier quite reasonable on Ebay if you look hard enough.
You can purchase a 200w, 300w, or 500watt amp for a little as $30 (USA) or cheaper if you want to wait for an imported one.
Speakers can be had for $20-$30 / pair. If you want better sound, go with larger than 4" speakers. I stepped up from 4" speakers to 5-1/4" speakers and they sound alot better.
Or for about $65 you can just order the Shark 100 watt system which has great reviews and is plenty loud.

Yes they are loud enough to be heard at highway speeds, no problem.
With 250 watts and 5-1/4" speakers, my system is not only loud enough, it also sounds good.
My next step is to mount an 8" sub inside the fairing because I just noticed there is a separate oulet for a sub on the back of the amp. I hooked one up temporarily and I can't believe the sound I have with it!!!
It sounds as good or better than my car stereo!!
There is just enough room behnd the headlight, ahead of the speedometer to fit atleast an 8" woofer (maybe even a 10"!!) so that will be one of my winter projects.

Something to consider for tunes on the road on a budget. I run this through a bluetooth comm system but it works just as well straight from your ipod.

With these earphones you can listen to your music at the same level you listen to at home in your living room. They are secure, won't fall out of your ears when putting on/taking off your helet and they are comfortable to wear all day long.

Sound quality is MUCH better than you could ever get with external speakers at speed.

for what it's worth..i believe you're using data time when accessing an app on an iphone. so running an app continuously while riding could end up in a surprise on your next at&t bill depending on the plan you chose.
a lot of folks don't realize app usage is data usage.
be sure and check how using an app in this way will affect your service plan.
also not willing to expose my iphone to the risk of weather, rocks, and vibration...but that's just me.

i wouldn't worry about vibration. my phone still works.

weather and rocks. i have a windshield.

bluetooth or wired. the sound isn't very loud at all. thus the amplifier. my phone is allright in a quiet room. but i doubt i would hear anything on the bike. helmet or no helmet. it may work if the ducst are closed. but who rides with closed ducts in the summer?

im not worried about the data package, I have the unlimited data.
I have also noticed when shopping for iPhone mounts that some brands selling point is vibration dampening technology.
I too have a windshield and not a hard core biker that drives in the rain unless i get caught.
Vibration isn't much of a concern, the phone is always in my pocket during the day.

    BillB,
My amp is a Shark brand 250 watt and the speakers are two-way Pioneer brand. I've got $75 invested in the system ($50 for the amp and $25 for the speakers)
You can get an amp much cheaper than mine with the same power off of Ebay and speakers can be found just about anywhere.

I like the HUD display idea, especially after driving my buddies 06 C6 the other day. Can I get a G meter too?

    BillB,
Yes, I can walk you thru the process of hooking everything up and mounting the speakers to the handlebars, or to the back of the windshield (like my Yamaha has) or to the inside of a fairing.
Let me know what you have for speakers (if they're in housings or just bare speakers) and we'll figure something out that will look good and work for you.
Just let me know when your ready with all the parts. PD

I mounted my amp under the tank, on the frame neck with heavy duty wire ties. Keeps it out of the rain and hides it well. The amps are not vey big, so it's fairly easy to find a place to mount them. Some just put them in a leather windshield pouch, or run it out of one of the saddlebags.
The wiring ? (like there aren't enough wires on these Yamahas aleady) I wired the amp to a relay triggered by the switch, so it always goes off when I turn off th key. I also have a switch on the left handlebar to turn it on/off if I feel the need. The amp doesn't take much juice to run it because my volt meter barely twitches when I turn it on.
All the speaker wires and radio/MP3 player cords are easily hidden with the rest of the wires behind the steering pivot.
The Radio or MP3 player are mounted with Velcro to a small plate I mounted to the left handlebar, by the clutch lever. It makes it handy to be able to change radio stations or adjust the volume while riding.
I no longer use my Walkman radio much any more, because the Sansa Fuze MP3 player has an FM radio in it, and works very well. The stations are pre-set, so a tap on the button changes the stations while riding.
It's important to have things mounted in a convenient location to be able to make adjustments while riding without having to take your eyes off the road.
