Anyone that ever burns out your TCI like I did PM Robert ( one of the moderators of XJBikes). Very reasonable price to repair and a fast turn around. I was back on the road in no time!

Old thread (but, Hey!...I used the search!)...

Does this Robert guy still repair/re-solder the TCI units?

And Robert who? Maybe a link to his profile?

I second looking up darkfibre if the TCI is actually burned out, He rescued what looked like a total loss with burned board a while back, just for shits n giggles. 8O He's also got a stim so he can bench test them!

However I think you just have a cracked solder joint & any half decent TV/radio repair shop will be able to fix those for less than the cost of postage to Oz :)

Local shop agreed to take a look at it if I could get it open.

It looked brand new inside, just like every other electrical component on this bike that I've inspected. He pronounced it healthy, but did drop a little solder on the components that he's seen fail on similar circuit boards.
Said "Might not help, but it won't hurt it. I don't see anything wrong in here".

Cool, how close did he look? I'd imagine, as he does TV's, he would have used a magnifier to look at joints since expansion/contraction related solder cracks are a common thing on TV vertical IC's (when you just get a bright line across the centre of the screen) and also I believe what happens to TCI's after years of vibration & hot/cold cycles.

Best thing now IMO is get all the carbs/valves/oil, filters & plugs etc done & run the bike to see what it does :)

He used that big, illuminated magnifying glass thing. I took a look at it to. It looked really nice....kinda hate I opened the box. He spent a good 5 minutes poring over it and soldering connections.

Better to know for sure than have a nice virgin box & wonder if it's at fault...
