I would like to lower the rear end on my 82 by 2-3" but am not sure the best way to do this. I have been told everything from cutting the stock springs, to purchasing an aftermarket kit. What have others tried, and what should I look out for?

The safest way would be to just put shorter shocks on it. I dont think you should go past 2" though because of the driveshaft angle

A really descent set of used Suzuki Savage shocks could be $30 plus shipping. They are a little softer than our stock springs (not a lot). A set dropped my bike right at 2 1/2" in the rear...

BTW REALLY couldn't afford the aftermarket sets 8O

If you can find or make a spring compressor (I made my own) you just cut 1" off the top of the stock springs, which will drop the seat about 1-1/2- to 2" and rides very nice.

I did the same as PainterD, made a spring compressor and cut 1" of the coil. Worked fine and cost $0.
