I have an 85 XJ700NC. I have to replace the fuel tank. I found a fuel tank for an 86 XJ700 locally.... Will it work?

I don't see why it wouldn't, the 700 was only made 85-86 and the only difference I know of is in the front fender.

Cool. Thanks. What is the difference with the fender anyway?

I heard the fender was flatter on the 85, but that might be BS.

i believe it will work also yamaha shows different numbers but i think its because of the colors. the fenders show the same number just the last 2 letters are different again i think its the paint code . i have a feeling the maxim x tank would fit also but dont hold me to that . saw someone was selling a really nice tank here yesterday for like 40-45 bucks i thought about it for my x just to have a spare

Your right about the #s, just because 1 or 2 are different doesn't mean the part wont work. Some Virago tanks will work as well.

Well... fuel tank works. It's exactly the same as the 85. Now I need a petcock... Bike has been sitting for 11 years and the petcock leaks and is sluggish. I can't wait to get this thing running.

Click on the picture of the motor at the top of this page and get a rebuild kit for the petcock from Chacal. It will be a lot cheaper than a new petcock and there are directions with good pictured on here on how to do it properly.
