Moving the controls back?

    Has anyone ever moved their controls back? Like by the passenger pegs? I was thinking about trying it, it couldnt be much different than the forward controls right? or is there something im missing?

    i think it's possible for sure... just have to change the shifter and brake pedal..the angle of both might be a little weird though to get used to as your feet would be pointed more towards the ground...

    You would have to cut the brake lever pivot off the frame and move it up higher, make some brackets with gussets to add enough strength and a place for your pegs. As for the shifter, you might get away with flipping it around and pushing down to shift-pulling up to down shift. Can be done with a lot of thought & fab work and maybe some trial n error. :lol:

    Orange, I was looking at flipping it also, haha. And BAREfoot your right, i would have to angle them weird. I was hoping someone on here has done it so i could look at how it looks. I have long legs and i dont really want forward controls. :/

    i'm 6'3 and have long legs too.. i want to lower the footpegs down a bit and i thought about backing them up and even tried putting my feet on the rear pegs while riding..but it was too awkward... so i'm sticking with the stockish position... there aren't many bikes planned out for taller riders in mind... haha..
    i'm making my own custom footpegs and i'm planning on lowering them about an inch which will help out with knee bend for sure... and putting a forward angle on them too.. i'm going to post pics when i get to it later this winter... but i've got a lot more to do before then!

    They're called rearsets. Look on ebay, there are plenty out there.

    I'm also interested in doing this. I've been looking at pictures on Google and eBay, and from what I see, the Seca had its controls like this. I figure all I have to do is flip the shifter over, meaning that pushing down is upshifting while pulling up is downshifting. For the footpegs - I noticed that all four pegs on the Maxim are connected via brackets. So I can purchase Seca brackets for about $40. But the front pegs on a Seca are not connected to the brackets. I also noticed that the rear brake lever is shorter and angled more for the Seca, making it a reasonable reach for the riders foot with pegs that are moved back. This can be found on eBay for up to $20.

    I always make the mistake thinking my bike is simular to most XJ's when in fact it is pretty much an oddball, sorry guy's. My pegs bolt to the frame instead of a bracket. :roll:

    I ended up making some "rearsets" for under $20 at my local hardware store, (and place of work) Ill post pics soon.

    I had to extend the shifter linkage, it was very simple and only cost me about 12$.

    then i flipped the linkage for the brakes so it links backward to the pedal. I mounted the pegs through the holes for the muffler mounts. Im waiting on a welder to tack them in place but other than that what do you guys think?

    I did something similar to yours on my xj1100. Peg mounting points are a little different on mine though. Total cost was around $20.

    I know you have to use the IMG code if your using photobucket. but yeah man, i like your shifter link. How did you make it? or did you buy it? Also are those aftermarket brake and shifter levers? I really like how it looks.

    I made the set up. Threaded some 1/4" steel rod that I cut to the appropriate length. Added the ball and socket fittings on the ends. Cut about 2/3 off the original shifter and put it on the bike facing down and attached the ball and socket joint. The shift lever that is on the footpet is out of the junkyard (no idea what bike it is off of). I used the rest of the shifter and had a guy weld it to the bottom of the junkyard shifter. Attached that end to the other ball and socket and called it done.

    As for the brake lever. That's just the stock lever cut down, drilled a hole and put a bolt through it with a piece of rubber.

    I see, good idea on threading the rod, i went the easier route and bought pre-threaded rod and then slid a peice of 1/4 stainless steel tubing over it to provide strength. It shifts through all the gears great in my garage but it still needs a road test. :D
