Ok, it's more than half way through November in CT and it's getting pretty chilly as per usual in New England but till the roads are unsafe or salted (whichever comes first) I'll keep riding & then I'll settle the bike in for a winter overhaul & manicure.

So this morning I had to attend a seminar & thought I'd take her out for the drive and my goodness what a joy this bike is on the interstate. I think the thing I liked most was how effortlessly it handles interstate speeds without being seriously buffeted by crosswinds and with the huge torque she has in excess, there were no hills...

I love the MPG of the XJ650J of the same year (50-55MPG) but as nimble as the 650 is, the XJ11 can climb a tree.

I'm going to be doing a lot of little detailing on it over the winter and a thorough rebuild of the carbs so she'll idle as well as she now runs over 3K (where she tears loose). Oh I understand the 95HP of the XJ11 is nothing compared to some of the bikes made today but I can't honestly see anything they have to offer that I'd want that this XJ11 doesn't have.

Truth be told, for a 60 year old geezer, I think this bike is pound for pound the most enjoyable vehicle since my 72 BMW 3.0CSL And THAT was a phenomenal car.

Can't wait to ride it after this winter's overhaul.

    :)

Love is in the air. Its like the difference between a small block and a big block once you have one nothing else will do.

There's no replacement for displacement. How does the handling differ between the two?

The 650 turns easier in tighter corners but overall driving is much the same except the 1100 absorbs bumps in the road far better. More stable at higher speeds too. Weight matters.

That's how i feel about my XS1100. Nice and smooth on the highway with plenty of power. About the only thing I would trade it for is the XJ1100.

To me the 1100 just feels like what it is, more substantial I feel like it rolls in and out of the corners easier/smoother, sometimes I feel like I need to beat the 650 down to get it to lay over I envision myself hanging over the high side hanging onto one handle bar and my feet on the side of the tank jumping up and down, kinda like they do on sail boats except for the jumping up and down part. I am not a peg scraper at least not on purpose.but i do enjoy a spirited ( man in blues definition apparently not a infraction) ride up through the mountains Its definitely smoother on the highway and I feel less fatigued after a long run. Now the 700 just fits me perfect the first time I rode it I felt like I could do whatever I wanted to with it no learning curve at all it just does what you expect it to do. Thats why everyone needs more than one XJ tell you wife, girlfriend or significant other Waldo said so

If Yamaha made a car, I'm sure I'd buy it. Over the years. I've been pleasantly surprised by their speakers, receivers, keyboards and now...motorcycles.

The 650 platform is great for city driving. The 1100 is a great all around city and road bike. I just wish they would have made a better seat. After about 100 miles or so I need to get off and give my tail a rest. Do you guys have the same problem?

My seat is pretty comfy, although the PO recovered it and also replaced the pad at the same time. It beats the new motocross bikes, they're like sitting on a split rail fence for an hour.
