    Hey,

I checked the oil through the window the other day, noticed it was not showing so I bought some oil. Honestly, over 3 liters later, still not showing. I know this is ridiculous because either I was running on no oil before and did some unreal damage or not I have 3 liters too much oil in it. I know what i'm doing around bikes and it doesn't leak much so i'm guessing it's the latter. Either way, I want to try to understand why i'm not seeing anything in the sight glass. Just a few minutes ago, I popped the fill cap and I can see a portion of the clutch basket submerged in oil. can anyone verify at what level you see the oil if you look in the fill cap?

    Cheers,

    Kyle

Oil level is full at the top of the site glass when the bike is sitting level not on stand. Your site glass might be dirty or your oil is real clean and hard to see. I do not think you can see the oil level when looking down through the fill hole

hence my reason for concern. unless a new oil has been developed that is as clear as water. Sight glass is clean, no oil showing but I can see oil at clutch level when looking in the fill.

Drain it out and add it back with bike on center stand till it is half way up the site glass then you can see what it looks like. On the metal in front of the site glass there are 2 raised marks the bottom mark is minimum the top is maximum oil level this is when the bike is sitting on tires level there should be just a tiny air bubble at the top of the site glass.

Yeah, I was gonna ask "is it on the sidestand?"

On the sidestand you won't see any oil in the window. As soon as you start the bike you probably won't see any either, or when it's running, or for 5 minutes after you shut it off.

The capacity cast into your clutch cover+about 200cc's will bring it to the top of the sight glass with a small bubble at the top.

Yes - - it's called Gasoline ! If your crankcase filled itself overnight, you may also have a bad petcock and dodgey float needle/seat sealing.
Check your drained oil for a strong gas smell. Otherwise, save this clean oil for the mower and topping up the car.

By my calculations you had only put 1/2 quart too much in.

Did you check oil level after a recent ride?

I fill my Sump up to the Top of the Window; leaving a very small bubble.

After the Bike is run, the Oil will expand and the Bubble will disappear.

But, after the Bike has been warmed-up and ridden awhile, ... when I put the Bike on the Center Stand, ... it takes 4 or 5 minutes for the Oil to Scavenge and return to the Sump.

If the Bike is parked on the Side Stand, ... the Sight Glass appears Empty.

ok, so after storing my bike on prime over the winter, idiot, I started her up and gas was pouring out of the air intake housing. After it cleared itself out it no longer occurs. no issue

I then check my oil and it was full of gas. did a change and flushed it out. did another change and have yet to see if it is till happening.

so from what you saying, carb cleaning time and petcock rebuild?

    thanks.

If it only did it on prime you are likely ok on the petcock. Unhook the line with it set to on then switch it to reserve. It should not leak on these settings. Switch it to prime and the fuel should flow out in a nice stream (have a container to catch any leaked fuel). You should check your float hieghts and needles though because they should have shut off the gas once the bowls were full and prevented the gas from flowing into your air box and crank case.

you probably overfilled it.. capacity is 2.4 L without a filter change.. i think it's about 2.6 L with a filter change.. someone correct me if i'm wrong

The Oil Fill Capacity is CAST on the Case, ... right near the Oil Fill Cap.

The amount is expresses in Metric Notation inside a small Rectangle.

Fail Safe is the "Eyeball Method,"
Put the Drain Plug back into the Sump.
    Add 1 Quart.
While adding the contents of the 2nd Quart ==>> L@@K in the Window.
Slowly pour fresh Oil into the Fill Hole until the Level approaches the TOP of the Sight Glass.

    >> Level Bike // On Center Stand <<

    Install Oil Cap
    Run Bike 5 min.
    Kill. Wait 10 Mins.
    Inspect Oil Level in Window.
