Anyone done this before? Side stand, neutral safety?

I think they may be interfering with my solenoid + my bike is always having electrical problems, the less wiring on that thing the better. I'm not exactly worried about trying to take off with the side stand down.

not sure on a bike that old but on the later models the black and white wire coming off the tci if you cut it it does away with all the idiot switches

You can also simply locate and unplug the safety relay.

But I honestly wouldn't recommend it; the geometry of the Yamaha sidestand is such that it is easily overlooked and will cause a disaster if you lean left with it still down.

"Always having electrical problems"???? You need to look your entire electrical harness and connections over very carefully. Have you changed out the fuse block yet? If you are in the LA area, I'm not terribly far up the road and have the tools and knowledge to assist.

Honda solved the problem with a 4 cent rubber finger that would flick the sidestand up harmlessly if left down.
I guarantee you WILL forget the sidestand someday.

Fuses are new and are now in-line...was once a major contributor to problems. My current issues have been starting. I have been on another thread:
    http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/p=2 ... tml#249743

looks like charging system is going to have to be next on my list.

    For this thread however:
Pulling the relay made it so the bike wouldn't even do its normal buzzing sound. I'm also not inclined to cut anything off the TCI box.

The ignition cutoffs seem to be working properly, so I guess I'll leave them. Although I'm "positive" I'm not about to leave the side stand down b/c of my habits when I start the bike, I'm going to heed the word of more experienced riders as I'm sure one day I will no longer be "positive"

@Robert, thanks for the offer, however the bike is in the Bay area right now and by the looks of it, won't be going anywhere for a while.
