Hi, I have a fairing from an 84-85 XJ I would like to mount on my 83 XJ750 which I am hoping to start rebuilding during the Christmas break.
I am hoping that someone would have a picture of a bare frame that shows the lugs and mounting position for the bracket to the frame.

The particular fairings looks like this:

Also can /has anyone changed from the 81-83 ATARI instrument panel to a 84-86 Instrument panel.

I have not seen the 84-86 instrument close up, but they do look somewhat different. Again any photos on that front would be helpful to my project.

Thanks for any help that can be provided

My project that I was hoping to get stuck into over Christmas has come to a standstill and nopoint starting on the second XJ if I cannot finish this one first.

Best shots that I have. 1984 XJ750RL. Not sure how much difference there is on the frames as the 84 XJ750RL used the Seca 900 frame.

    Thank you.

    Wizzard,
You probably have answered my next question and that is what does the instruments cluster looks like that goes with this fairing. The tank looks very different to my 83, what year model is your bike?

Thanks as well. You have certainly help with half of my problem...that is that I was not sure where/how the bracket bolted to the frame and it shows that quite clearly in you second photo. What I need now is how the bracket is attached to the Head Tube..the view that is obstructed by the forks

Ok pmjydnl you owe me for this one. lol Cold, dark and snowy outside but managed to fight my way to the front of the shed and get the best pic I could of the front mount. Had a hard time spotting it. If you look in the pic there is a tube that runs across below the headlight recess. Welded to the centre of it is another tube the same size that runs back to the front of the frame and is held on to a bracket with 2 bolts on each side. You can see the top bolt above the wiring loom that runs back under the tank. The bottom bolt is hidden behind the loom. Tried to move the loom out of the way but it wasn't very flexible as it is just too darn cold out there right now. If you need a pic of what the back of the gauges look like and the connecters let me know as I have an extra set of gauges sitting on the shelf inside where it's warm that I could take some pics of. The FJ600 used the same style of fairing and gauges only the cluster did not include the clock like the 900 or 750RL.

Man, you are my kind of a hero. ..you know the cult type figure that everyone looks up to. Braving the elements in the quest of finding the answer in a dark cold shed....and all of that to help out a fellow XJ worshipper on the other side of the planet.!!!!

Mate thank you for that. It has been a trumendous help. I have the bracket so it made it easy to relate to what you were describing. Although the wiring is in the way, it does now give me a good idea of what I had thought but could not confirm. I did figure out that it would be a block of steel welded to the frame, but had no idea on how forward or the mounting bracket would sit. At least the picture shows that it is quite close as there is not much betwen the fastening bolt and the frame...fantastic. I can get started on it now.

Mate and I do owe you one, but I think it would be much better if you came downtown Sydney Aust. It is a barmy 21deg and its almost 10.00pm, good weather for a good cold beer. Let me know what time your plane arrives and i'll pick you up and we can go and do some crusing through the city and along the south coast at night. Me personally, I do not like that snow stuff....too restrictive

Thanks again. Much appreciate the effort you went through.

You are very welcome. I needed to go out and make sure the bikes were doing alright out there anyway. Would be better to be able to ride them though. Put a negative symbol in front of that temp and your closer to what it is here. lol Actually not that bad for this time of year as long as the wind doesn't blow. Good luck with the project and post some pics of it when you get her done. If I ever make it to your side of the planet I will let you know. Sounds like you have some fantastic places to ride. Take care. :D
