    Hey all,

Happy New years first of all, hope all's well!

I just started re-assembling the front end on the Maxim, go the forks filled, o-rings installed, cir-clips clipped, etc... I noticed something though when installing the front tire. With no caliper installed, when i torque the axle nut down to 77.5 lbs or whatever the front wheel is very hard to turn. I'm pretty sure that the it's installed properly (looking towards bike from right, Nut --> washer --> fork --> speedo gearbox --> wheel --> spacer --> fork_left).

I know 77 foot pounds it whats listed in the user manual, is there something i'm missing maybe? No i don't have the service manual yet. Thanks for any information guys and/or gals.

    Marcel

Your stack-up is wrong somewhere; are you sure the speedo drive "tangs" didn't miss their notches and are now mashed flat?

Front axle should be that tight; if you can't tighten it to the specified torque without binding up the wheel then something's not right.

The Tangs are fine, thank truck.

Looks like the axle didn't draw in far enough for some reason (noticed a gap between the 'collar' and the axle, seems ok now and spins freely @77 Ft/lbs. Caliper has been mounted, now all that's needed is perhaps a crush washer and a bit of patience to get the brake bled. Thanks for your help Fitz.
