Problem with Carb#2 intake boot

Help, I am unable to install the second intake rubber boot because of the valve cover blocking the little brass spigot.

I have 2 or each boot as per the manual but none of them fit the space. The spigot would have to be on the left of the bolt instead of the right. Did I do something wrong or do I have the wrong piece?

Just to be clear, are you talking about the rubber boot between the engine and carb? It has the brass nipple on for vacuum to the petcock.

I guess we should ask some prelim questions:
Did you recently buy these parts new or are they from the junkyard?
If new, got a part number?
The vacuum nipple shouldn't interfere with the head obviously. I know that depending on the engine, the angle and bolt pattern of these boots can be different. For example, the 650 Turbo and regular 650 seca use different carb boots. It sounds like you have the wrong part.

I went back to the shop where I bought them and they will order the correct ones. I though all XJ650 were the same. My bad...
