XJ750 Trade?

    Just wondering if anyone's ever traded their XJ750 for another make/model motorcycle or if anyone has ever traded one of their motorcycles for an XJ750. I'm just trying to get a feel for what I could possible look for as an even trade for my 81' XJ750. It's in great condition, very clean , runs like new, title and whatnot.

    The XJ's a great bike and all, I'm just not digging the inline four. Plus it's a little on the tall side for me. I'd like to find something that's either a little lower to the ground, or would be easy to lower.

    I traided my good running 82 XJ750 for two XS1100's. One running but in need of work and the other not running with full fairing and bags for one.

    You have to decide what it is you want and what your precived value for the XJ is.

    It's roughly the equivalent of a V-Rod, except parts are cheaper, so trade, but ask for $1,000 cash.

    Well, I've seen some around that are comparable to mine selling anywhere from $800 - $2000. I really want to trade though; I need to be on the road. I'd ideally like to be on something like an older bobbed Sportster or maybe even an XS650. Something a little less cruiser and more daily commuter.
    I hope to find a good swap like your 2-for-1 deal tcoop. And TIMEtoRIDE, I think I'd have to take the V-Rod if someone offered it. I'm not the biggest fan of them myself, more of a classic Harley guy, but from what I hear they're pretty solid.

    My wife recently suggested I trade in my XJ750 for a different bike.
    This being my first and only bike ever, I dont know if I should entertain the idea.

    Other than the OP's question, can anyone think of reasons to NOT part with their XJ750?
    Sure its a 1982 bike, but mine only requires some standard maintenance and some age-related attention. I suggested, other bike unseen, that I keep the xj and work off the list of "needs" (lube the speedo and cables, fuse box work, rear brake, gasket replacements, clean carbs/replace needles/etc) so I dont need to be off the bike due to maintenance.

    Are there benefits to these old bikes that just arent available in the new ones?

    You can tune it with a screw driver instead of a laptop.

    As far as my XJ goes it's in really good shape, hell the seat isn't even torn. And with the exception of maybe a handful of parts it's all stock. It’s not the maintenance or anything that’s deterring me, it’s just the “feel” of the bike. I like the narrower v-twin as opposed to the inline four, and the stock XJ750 is just a smidge on the tall side for me and I’m no welding wizard so I can’t bob or chop it.
    I agree that older bikes are easier to work on and customize. That's why I'm leaning towards an older sporty.

    Have you sat on a Sportster? Not really any lower unless it's the L model. I like the smoothness of my xj compared to my previous rides.

    Xombie, you could lower the rear by putting shorter shocks on it. Sportster or Suzuki Savage(650) will work. You can find some on EBay fairly cheap.
