    Hi Forum
The name is Charles and I just picked up my 1983 Midnight Maxim 750 with just over 10xxx miles on it and I have NO CLUE about anything on this bike... Today I flushed the tank and replaced the worn fuel lines and it now starts and runs perfect! i rode it around the block a few times and everything seems to work perfectly except for the blinkers which were removed, front light and the front brake. I opened the master container up that is on the handle bar and the fluid is brown/black... i will be flushing that system tmrw and hopefully it will then work. Does anyone know what bulb or if i have to replace that huge round light
thanks in advance for you help

ya take the headlight off, pop the bulb out of the back and tell the guy at the autoparts store to fetch ya one just like it (except not burnt out) while ya do your other shopping. No big expensive, fragile sealed unit for you my friend. YOU'RE riding an XJ now.

I recall getting one at Fred Meyer's once in a pinch. Ah the beauty of "off the shelf" engineering.

I believe if it's the replaceable kind (clips in the back) it'll be an H4-60/55 Watt. If it's the whole bulb then I want to say an H6024.

Charles sounds like your doing it the right way Bleed the brakes change all your fluids and drive it. Check the rear brake soon especially if your front brakes don't work some stock shoes delaminate which isn't a pretty sight and adjust the valves. Then drive the heck out of it. With 10k miles you have a long way to go before it will need anything major

Don't forget to check the date codes on the tires. If they are older than 5 years you will want to replace them. Dryrot can ruin your day.

The Bulb you got in that Headlight, ( Front Rim ~ 2 Screws ) is one that has many alternatives.

SYLVANIA + GE Make Bulbs that stay within the specs of Current Draw and provide more light.

I run my 750 Max using a "Sylvania SilverStar MotorCycle Bulb".

    The light is White.

(( I also changed the Bolt used to adjust Headlight height, ... with one that has a Smaller Diameter. Using washers on both sides, ... you can elevate the Headlight a bit more, which is of tremendous benefit at Night. ))

Thanks guys for all the great help and making me feel so welcome...

The light problem wasnt the bulb at all... When i replaced the fuse I replaced it with one of the extras that was on the inside of the fuse box. Little did i Know it was no good... Trip to autozone and 20 amp fuse later TA-DA!!! we have night time driving...

The front brake is still not working after being flushed, clean fluid, and bled. Any further suggestions? What do I start replacing first?

    Thanks again ahead of time...

Do you feel any resistance?? Crack the top banjo fitting 1/4 turn and use it as if it's a bleeder. Throw towels over the bike.

First thing to check re: your front brakes--

In the bottom of the master cylinder are what appear to be two "false" drillways. One of them has a TINY hole in the bottom of it. If that hole is not clean, then the master cylinder won't build any pressure. I use a single bristle from my parts cleaning brush clamped in a pair of hemostats to "probe" the hole clean.

You NEED to replace the brake lines if over 5 years old (and your are probably originals) and all the rubber parts in the system which means master cylinder and caliper rebuilds. While the brakes may work "OK" without a complete system rebuild, you really shouldn't trust your life to it.

I will attempt the banjo fitting bleed tmrw. there is VERY LITTLE pressure in the lever at all.

I deff. want front brakes. Would be nice if i could get it working without the financial burden of rebuilding all of the items. The rubber brake lines are in very good condition with not cracking or leaks from the fitting crimps. I will be going to the junk yard tmrw as well in search of a calipers/master cyclinder.

If i do decide to do the rebuild on the braking system for the front what would i need parts/tool wise and how much am I looking at?

You don't need to buy calipers/master if yours are still rebuildable, and not pitted or ruined.
