I should be getting my new ignition coils any day now.. Problem is that I don't know which cylinders to hook em up to. I'm pretty sure that one coil is for #1 & #3 and the other is for #2 & #4, but I'm not sure which goes where.

I have a 1981 XJ750 Seca, and I believe the coils are fed by a shared red/white wire, and then an orange wire for one and a grey wire for the other.

Thanks in advance for the help.

The -82310 part number is the left side coil and is for cylinders #1/4 spark plugs. It has the solid orange (ground) wire and the red-with-white-tracer-stripe (hot) wire input leading to it.

The -82320 part number is the right side coil and is for cylinders #2/3 spark plugs. It has the solid grey (ground) wire and the red-with-white-tracer-stripe (hot) wire input leading to it.

    Thanks chacal!

cutlass> The wiring harness on the bike was thrashed so its all pretty much MacGyvered together.. Not to say I'm on par with the master, of course.

Len, you disappoint. :) While we're not swapping in some Dyna coils, the picture on page 7 would have been a perfect illustration. I even thoughtfully labeled the wiring harness connectors.

On occassion, yes. But it's a rare event, a moment that perhaps should be savored with a fine wine, or a stout ale......

wish you the best of luck i think the red/w wire the positive one goes on the big terminal. Its been a few years since i did it but the hot from the fuse supplies the coils then supplies the tci. But dont go by what i say its been to long since i did my virago its all starting to fade away. i know the wires are the same code on it. If you run into any problems let me know i think i have a good color wire code pic if it helps if you don't have one . Personally i hate wiring

Or perhaps a Leinenkugel Red Lager. Between the two of you, could you have maybe found a scruffier bike to install the Dyna Coils on?

We could have, but we were feeling rather lazy and phlegmatic that particular day.

And anyways, booty (as well as beauty) is in the eye of the beholder........ :D

You're just jealous because you don't live within spitting distance of the Pacific Ocean. Darn that salt air, anyways...

Besides, it may be ugly as sin... but it's mine, dammit, and it runs. Added bonus: you're going to be seeing more of it.
