Hey everyone! My name is Kyle and I just picked up my first bike. It's an '82 Maxim 650 that I picked up from a member here. The carbs need some work, so I've started making my way through the carb cleaning tutorial here. There's a ton of great info here!

I guess a little about me is in order also. I'm 24 years old and a mechanical engineer from Dallas, TX. I work for an oilfield company and they've sent me to Hattiesburg, MS for the time being. I help design the drill bits they use to drill for oil. I've got a bit of fabrication experience from building a Suzuki Samurai so once I learn to ride a little better, I'd like to chop and bob this bike like some that I've seen on here. In the mean time, I've got a lot of learning and reading to do! I will try to keep the noob questions to a minimum in the time being! I think I'm going to like it here!

Welcome to the site !! Maybe you know of some chemical that would dissolve gum and varnish in the hidden passages of a carb (better than regular ol' carb cleaner)

Welcome to the group. I wheel a Samurai too. Running 33 inch mud terrains with a full custom lift. It is a blast offroad. Have fun with the XJ. The guys on here have more knowledge than you could ever need when it comes to these bikes.

Sorry! I've known people to use diesel or kerosene to clean engine parts before, but the drill bits use drilling mud which I'm afraid probably wouldn't be helpful for carb cleaning unless you had some pumps which could pump 400 gallons per minute at 2200+ psi!

Thanks for the warm welcome guys! Zombiehouse, it's good to see another Sami guy on here! My zuk just got Dana 44s and 36" IROKs. I can't wait to get back to Texas and get it on the trail!
