    Hey fellas,

just recentley took off the crank case cover that's over the gear selector setup for a paint job. however, i seem to have disarranged the setup. after placing it back to what i thought was correct... the bike can now only be in 1st or neutral.

i then took it apart again, and lined up the ingraved "dots" that are on the teeth of the selectors, and the ingraved "lines" that are on the drum and the selector lever... have not ran the bike yet cuz i think its still wrong. it does not seem to follow the rule of (1st, down) (neutral, half up) (second, up).

the neutral seems to be a full click up, and then after retracting back second is another full click up.

it just dont seem like the bike... any advice

    thanx
    doc

The XJ11 won't shift gears without the engine running or turning the rear wheel. I'll put mine on the canterstand and either run the engine or turn the rear wheel by hand. Try that first and let me know. There is a close up in the XJ service CD I'll see if I can find it.

never mind fellas... got it figured out.

the ingraved lines on the drum and lever line up together when the bike is in second gear.

that being said... i lined up the ingraved dots on the selector teeth, and manually spun the drum to the left (clockwise), where the ingraved line on the drum is nearly only 15 degrees from center straight up position. then i spun the rear wheel by hand to finish the adjustment.

now the bike shifts up and down just fine

    thanx
