Hey guys! Yet another question. Just got a new pair of turn signals for rear of the bike. Stock bulbs would not kick the relay, so I took the housings of both old and new apart and swapped in the old bulbs.

Where my problem lies is my new housings are alot smaller than my old ones. The new ones have to covers, a amber cover on the inside, and a clear outer cover. With the old bulbs in the new housing the bulb is only about an 1/8 of an inch (if that) away from the amber cover.

This brings me to my question. What is the temp the light bulb gets before the relay start to kick? Is the bulb going to be so hot that it burns my amber cover??

From here I have to questions, replacing the relay with an electrical one or the amber cover is removable. (see picture below) So does anyone know of any replacement 1156 bulb that is the same 27w 12volt in an amber color that's locally available at an autoshop?

I know when i was younger we used to crack the amber pannels out of our cars and get bulbs that looked clear but actually shined amber.

If it's really just 1/8" away, it likely would get hot enough to crack, warp, or otherwise damage the plastic, if you leave the turn signals on for long.

If you can find an 1156NA (NA=natural amber) bulb, then you could remove the amber filter from in front of the lens.

    1125's???

1157's are 27W for the bright filament, 8.3W for the low.

2057's are 27W for the bright filament, 6.7 for the low.

1156's are 27W, single filament and come in amber and clear.

    I can't find anything on 1125s.

No, the bulb that came with the new lights is only a 10watt single filament bulb. So its no where near the stock bulbs to kick the thermal relay thats stock on our bike.

Run 1156's and don't sweat it. How long is the bulb actually ON for, a half a second? It cools every time it turns off.

23W won't even do it. 27W will make everything happy.

Ended up picking up a pack of 1156A's tonight. Wasn't sure if they would look right, so changed one side to 1156A with the lens out and other with just the 1156 and the amber lens. Personally, thought the 1156A was brighter. So switched em out and got them wired in! All in all, really like the way they came out, nice buy for under $20 bucks to upgrade the signal lights. Thanks again for all the help.
