Hi, recently i took the petcock out of my 1983 maxim xj750 bike hoping that rebuilding it would solve some of the "issues" it has been having lately. the main problem that I've been having is it only being able to run on Pri, instead of the ON mode or reserve. Not sure why it only works on that mode. the vacuum line was hooked up and everything. the carbs have been taken apart and cleaned recently. they are out of sync though (which i plan on syncing). It's a real pain to start up when it's cold. it always stalls. i just want to make it to the point to where it would start up with ease, without giving me any of the annoying hustles that it usually does. that way i can ride it to work, without waiting a long time for it to function normally.

Send a message to Chacal; ask him about his HCP124 kit, or the Deluxe HCP6060 kit, which has *everything*.

The fuel cap gasket is expensive because it's not "just a gasket." It's the whole metal basket/inner piece with the gasket attached to it.

hi xjmike,i know how you feel when it comes to buying parts for your bike, unless you can source 2nd hand parts cheap and this can be a real minefield unless you can see them in the hand 1st,i think you will just have to accept that parts are expensive for what they are and its almost idiotic to try and get parts from dealers, when you get quoted $90 for a tappit cover gasket or $120 for a single caliper kit that has only 2 bits of rubber and a clip you soon give them the flick,i asked them why their prices were so high and they said overheads and keeping jobs in Australia,
Phfft ,i look after those who look after me and i have overheads aswell. i have come to the conclusion that its not a cheap hobby/addiction and i just have to accept that, i must say im envious of you americans not having to pay for postage all the way to australia, such is life!!!

i was told parts are expensive becuase motorcycles is a seasonal thing. and companies need to stay afloat y ear round.

that was the excuse i got 5 years ago.

semi's can buy recapped tires for $125 and get 100k miles out of them.

motorcycles buy tires for $125 and only get 5k miles out of them. RIDICULOUS.

they can actually make more money if they mass sell it at cheaper prices. some parts company should explore that concept. After talking to chacal, he explained to me that this is NOT the original yamaha OEM petcock. which explains why i had so much difficulty finding the proper rebuild kit for it. someone took this one off of a kawasaki or some other make and put it on there. so now i bought the proper one from ebay (ten bucks) then bought a rebuild kit (twenty five bucks). can't wait till this bike runs good! carbs have already been cleaned out and everything. just needs a tune up. that's all. haha :D

    hopefully this will work,
