Hi, I am new to bikes and recently bought a 1982 xj750. It runs pretty well, but I would like to try to change the fluids/tune it up a bit. I have done this kind of work on a 150cc scooter I had, but this a whole different ball game. I was wondering if anyone had a pdf service manual that they could send me.
    Thanks in advance :D

If you're going to spend money maintaining the bike, you might want to consider spending money on reference materials as well.

The XJCD set has manuals and a whole lot more, but does have one drawback; it's hard to read a PDF when you're curled up in bed, or if the power's out.

To that end, you might want to hit up Chacal, our resident parts provider. He has factory and aftermarket Haynes manuals; they're easier to take out to the garage or workspace with you, and don't require batteries.

There is some service data at the end on some of them; I don’t think there’s one online you will have to find a Haynes manual that has everything you need.

Well sort of. The Haynes manual is fraught with omissions and some outright bad data. For EVERYTHING you need to know, you need a factory book, especially for deep-engine mechanical work. The Haynes leaves out/glosses over some pretty important stuff.

    Absolute best practice is both.

I've actually had better luck with Clymer manuals than Haynes manuals

Hi Fitz I only have a Haynes manual and I have found that there is quiet a lot of things that they have not been able to cover. I have
always wanted to get a more comprehensive and complete manual
for working on my XJ650. In your post you mentioned a factory book.
Do you know where I may be able to purchase one of those.

I just recently ordered a Yamaha shop Service manual from Yamaha, $100. What a rip off! Don't waste your money. Les than 20% of it is about the 81' XJ750 Sega which is what all of it was supposed to be on. All of the remainder is on the Yamaha 650 Maxim. The pictures are all DARK and really not worth much. I had to go back to the shop I ordered it from and have them run copies off of their shop manual on the foot shift case and the position of the shifter springs since the pic in my manual was so dark. Yamaha should be ashamed of themselves for charging $100 for what is really a update of sorts. grunt007

Len (chacal) has them, I got mine for my 650 on-line from an automotive book company for cheap; or eBay. A good eBay'ed dealer shop manual is the best; they're loose-leaf 3-hole punched. My 550 book is like that; but my 650 book came 3-hole bunched AND glued/bound. (I'm gonna take it to Kinko's one of these days and have them slice it "free.")

I got all my factory books except that one (the 550 service manuals/supplements, assembly manuals for both the 550 Seca and Seca 650, etc.,) off eBay and for quite cheap actually.

About all I can say in referance to the Service manual now is that I have ordered the disc's from XJBikes and from the little preview I saw of what is on them they are definitely the best deal going for the guy like myself where it doesn't bother him getting his hands a bit dirty but in the long run has the specs available to get the job done right the first time.
I have to tip my hat to the guys that put these disc's together with the data ect. on them. I am sure that it must have been quite a job completing that job but from what I hear it is an on-going job. Great job guys! Bet the Harley boys wish they had something like that available for $10.00 :)))))) grunt007

Thanks guys I have seen the 3 hole punched manuals for sale on Ebay
but I did not know if they were worth buying. They are certainly cheap
and old enough to be origional factory manuals and I will now buy one.
