Is the YICS Tool interchangeable between Models?

    Can a YICS tool for a 1100 be used on a 650?

    Yamaha says yes, I say no. I built the YICS tool according to the plans you can find anywhere. It will fit all YICS Yamahas except the 1100. I had to lengthen the tool a bit so it would isolate cylinders 3 and 4. I have not compared the DIY tool to a factory Yamaha one, they might be a little different. Hold to tool you have to the YICS port and you can see where the seals will go. You will see if it will work or not.

    I bought one online for a few bucks and after using it...I'd recomend that you use a brazing rod or similar with a thin strip of a oiled rag over the entire length to clean the yics passage out as best you can before inserting any tool that has orings on it. Even if you lube them, you will lose a couple otherwise. Don't worry if you do, they will eventually melt and burn away but I cleaned mine first and wasn't surprised to get a ton of gook out of it.

    There is also an alternative method using an actual oiled rag in lieu of the tool. You only need to isolate the various ports from one another.

    The YICS Passage is a straight bore, ... right through the back of the Head.
    You can open BOTH sides and push Carb Cleaner soaked "Patches" right through the Bore.

    A Small Caliber Rifle Bore Cleaning Brush will fit and be useful to scrub Carbon Deposits from the inside diameter.

    A Fiberglass Dowel made from a Driveway Marker will fit and can be used to push a Cleaning Patch all the way through the Bore.

    Make Cleaning Patches from Athletic Socks.
    Soak Patched and push through the Bore.
    When they come-out as clean as when they went-in, ... its clean enough.

    I suspected that, I build one from details on another site, it was for an 1100 and after holding it up to the outside of the case it appeared the far end (cap nut end) spacer should be about 3/8" to 5/8" shorter. The nylon reinforced gas line I was able to procure from NAPA had its hole a bit off center, but when I crank down on it, it seems to swell up fine. going to give it a try.
    I also found a good parts list and diagram of a homemade manometer, gone are the days of decent auto parts and hardware stores. I have spent more in gas than I have on parts for these tools.
