I am going to replace the clutch on my maxim x and am wondering if the clutch components on an airhead 700 is the same for the maxim x. I have seen a couple kits listed for both bikes but only springs listed for the airhead 700. Anybody know if they are interchangeable?? Thanks.

Questionable. They have different part numbers in the fiche; and neither cross-reference to any other bikes like the friction plates do.

Chacal's listing is only for "Non-X models" so there must be some difference.

I recommend you drop chacal a PM and see what he can tell you.

Yeah thanks for the reply, better to go with chacal then at least you know the parts will fit. Once I get into it then I'll have a better idea of what is what and maybe see if there are any differences. Thanks again.

I don't know if they are the same or not. I believe the x model would have higher tensioned clutch springs and probably beefier plates due to the fact it is a higher hp engine.

The x and airhead have a number different part numbers, but many x reference and are usable. Case in point is my ex has a full air head exhaust on it and it has a different part number.

But as far as internal engine parts are concerned, I'm sticking with the correct part #'s.

Yeah got an e-mail form chacal with a background and the differences in the bikes. Pretty interesting actually. Going with parts from him I think at least they will be correct. Good to know that the airhead exhaust will fit the X too. Any mods that need to be done or is it a direct bolt on? Has to be the same if it fits with no issues.

The airhead and x exhaust minus the part numbers, are precisely the same in every way. Putting the exhaust on an airhead is muuuuuch easier and requires much less name calling than the x due to the radiator....If you have to do fork seals....pull the entire front end and do the exhaust at the same time...THAT is EASY IMO.
