I've had to do some re-wiring on my '89 XJ900F and I've got a major problem.

In doing the work I've 'cooked' a diode - it has 5 wires and plugs into the loom with a square connector, one of the wires goes off to the starter circuit and the other 4 go back into the loom, it is a thin rectangular shape.

Any way now I need to replace it but don't even know what it's called to ask for a replacement online - it's listed on the wiring diagram simply as 'diode'.

Firstly, any idea what it is?
Secondly, any ideas where I can get one ?
    and
Thirdly - as the diode is 'cooked' is this the reason that the engine is turning over but I have no spark at the plugs ? ( I have neon plug caps that spark on each pulse so I know that there is no spark coming through and it is not the plugs)

Sorry for the waffle - I look forward to any help you can give me.

you can always take it into the Motorcycle shop/Mechanic nearest you and let them know the make and model of your bike... they can usually figure out what it is and what you need...

as for help on here i would say post a photo of it...it will help tremendously.

I was just going to explain that. It's a "diode block"; every circuit on the bike that needs a diode has them all conveniently collected THERE.

They differ from bike to bike (more or fewer diodes) BUT the good news is:

A wiring diagram and some basic continuity/polarity troubleshooting should help you determine which diode in the block got cooked; and you could just "externally" replace that one.

Otherwise you'll need to find the one that actually matches your bike.
