im running out of things to fix on the xj... lol, so lets think of a problem.... lately.. after it rains the bike acts up.... hence why it HAS to be water getting in. ill be driving and bvvvvvvvvv bike creeps to a stop without much warning and shuts off.... (sorta like when your alt on your car finially dies going up a hill) if i catch this in time.. i can set it to reserve... OR PRIME and it will buck out of its groove, resume, and then i can put it back to on. i know its water getting in, but is it at the petcock, or what? Ive got it down to a science to where i can stop it from happening on the road... but now im just curious.

Tell everyone what model of XJ you have. Many times problems running in rain can be traced to cracks in the ignition coils, though I don't think that sounds like your problem.

80 xj650.... thats what i thought it was too... but like i said, itll kick it out if i move the petcock... figured waters settling at petcock.... and prime or reserve flows differently... i dunno... like i said, only after the rain. not a big deal... just ran out of questions :D

Dumb question, I assume you've replaced all the rubber hoses between your petcock and carbs right? Maybe putting the petcock on prime puts enough flow head pressure on the gas it blocks water intrusion through a crack?

reserve would pick up more water since the inlet is closer to the bottom of the tank. how can water get in without gas getting out?
water and electricity don't mix, check the coils and plug wires and the tank vent
